Seeking the perfect base for your Kota Kinabalu adventure? Le Méridien offers a prime city center location with easy access to the Waterfront, Filipino Market, and night bazaars. Enjoy ocean views, a refreshing pool, and excellent breakfast at this 5-star hotel.
Planning a trip to Kota Kinabalu, one of my biggest dilemmas was choosing the right accommodation.
While Kota Kinabalu is fantastic for a relaxing resort stay, I was eager to explore local markets, discover hidden culinary gems, and stroll along the vibrant Waterfront. This meant I needed a hotel right in the city center, complementing a potential resort stay.
Initially, I debated between the Hyatt and Le Méridien. After weighing factors like location, breakfast options, room comfort, and ocean views, my final choice was Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu.
If you're planning an independent trip to Kota Kinabalu and seek a hotel that puts you right in the heart of the action, Le Méridien is a truly satisfying choice.

2. Why Le Méridien was my top choice for Kota Kinabalu accommodation
When selecting my hotel in Kota Kinabalu, location was paramount. The longer it takes to get from your accommodation to attractions, the more energy you burn, so I always prioritize a convenient spot.
📍 Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu Jln Tun Fuad Stephens, Sinsuran, 88000 Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu is right in the city center, offering excellent access to the Filipino Market, Night Market, and Waterfront area.
I split my stay, spending 2 nights at a city hotel and 1 night at Shangri-La. Once I moved to Shangri-La, I was fully immersed in resort life, which truly affirmed my decision to choose a well-located city hotel for the initial part of my Kota Kinabalu adventure.
The hotel's proximity to the airport was also a major plus, making my arrival and transfer stress-free.
2. Room Review
My room at Le Méridien boasted an amazing ocean view! It's more of a coastal view rather than a sandy beach vista, but it's stunning nonetheless.
After an early morning arrival, I unpacked and crashed. Waking up the next day, I pulled back the curtains to reveal the sparkling sea – truly a beautiful sight to start the day!
Kota Kinabalu is renowned for its breathtaking sunsets. While I would have loved to enjoy them from my room's ocean view, I ended up chasing those magical moments outside the hotel every evening!
The room itself was generally neat and tidy, and I never felt cramped, even with my luggage spread out. I particularly appreciate having ample space to open my suitcase without tripping over it.
And the **bedding**? Absolutely divine!
The bathroom was clean and featured a separate shower stall, which is always a plus.
3. Le Méridien's Unbeatable Location
A significant reason I chose this hotel was its incredible location.
Step right out of the hotel, and you're in the bustling city center. In the evenings, the Filipino Market comes alive just outside, and you're close to supermarkets, making everything easily accessible on foot.
In Kota Kinabalu, many travelers spend their days on tours and their evenings dining in the city or strolling along the Waterfront. Having a hotel with such a prime location means you don't need a car for every outing, which is a huge advantage!
4. Swimming Pool
While smaller than a resort pool, most guests are out on tours during the day, so you often have the pool almost entirely to yourself – it feels like your own private oasis!
The pool depth is approximately 5 feet, so if you're traveling with children, life vests or flotation devices are a must!
5. Breakfast
The breakfast offered a solid, palatable selection typical of a 5-star hotel, with a good variety of dishes. If you have early morning tours, having breakfast at the hotel is definitely the most convenient option!
Keep in mind that Malaysia is a predominantly Islamic country, so pork dishes are generally hard to find.
6. How to Book Your Stay
Hotel prices for the same dates can vary slightly across different booking platforms due to promotions, so it's always a good idea to compare them all.
Conditions: 1 night, City View, Twin Bed, Breakfast Included

For popular city hotels like Le Méridien, if you find available rooms, I recommend booking right away after confirming your room type!
7. Who is this hotel for?
Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu is an ideal hotel for independent travelers, thanks to its central city location.
If you prioritize convenient access to the Waterfront, Filipino Market, fantastic restaurants, and massage parlors, this location is unbeatable. Many travelers also choose to enjoy a couple of nights in the city before heading to a resort for a more relaxed experience.
