A 5-Star Hotel Recommendation That's Great Value for Money

Today, I'm sharing my review of the Hyatt Regency,

where I had such a wonderful stay in Kota Kinabalu!

This trip to Kota Kinabalu was my second time visiting.

Since I was traveling with just my mom,

I thoroughly searched for accommodation with excellent hygiene.

Knowing the area well, I picked a hotel with the best combination of price and location!

Even my picky mom said, "This place is pretty good!" haha

1. Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu is a small island in Malaysia.

It's smaller than Jeju Island, and the airport is also close by,

making it easy and stress-free to get around by taxi.

In particular, with shopping malls and markets clustered next to Jesselton Point,

if you choose accommodation in this area,

it means everything is conveniently within walking distance!

For accommodation in Kota Kinabalu, I recommend a place that satisfies these criteria!

✔️ 5-star + Near Jesselton Point + Swimming Pool

Tanjung Aru Resort is famous in Kota Kinabalu,

but there's absolutely nothing else nearby,

so I definitely don't recommend accommodation near Tanjung Aru!

(It's fine if you don't mind taking a taxi every time you go out... but seriously, there's nothing else there)

2. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu

Before going, I was really worried about cleanliness, so I checked Agoda reviews.

Most reviews said it was very well-maintained despite its age,

so I trusted them and booked!

Plus, the large money exchange, Wisma Merdeka,

is just 2 minutes away, so I exchanged money as needed every day.

It's almost connected to the hotel building, making currency exchange super convenient.

HotelsCombined is usually the cheapest option

because it compares prices from various booking sites like Agoda and Trip.com all at once!

Hotel prices constantly change depending on when you book,

so if you wait, thinking "I'll book it later," prices often go up.

⚠️ Especially for a 2-3 night stay, a difference of ~$7 to ~$15 really adds up.

There's no guarantee these prices will hold,

so I recommend booking through HotelsCombined or Agoda, which offer free cancellation.

3. Twin Bed Room Review

Hyatt Regency is a 5-star hotel, and

it's incredibly affordable, starting from the low ~$74, much cheaper than prices back home.

The room we stayed in was a Twin Bed Room.

It's spacious, luxurious, and affordable, so I highly recommend trying a 5-star hotel like this when you visit Southeast Asia〰

The Twin Bed Room interior is about 46 square meters (approximately 498 sq ft),

making it spacious enough for two people.

With individual single beds, it's a perfect room for a comfortable night's sleep!

While Hyatt Regency is typically a two-person accommodation,

children under 12 can stay for free,

which I thought made it great for families with kids.

My biggest concern was hygiene, but it's meticulously managed —

I even ate mangoes I bought, and didn't see a single bug!

The shower and toilet are also separated,

so you can use the restroom without feeling awkward while someone's showering,

and I went without a shower filter, but the water was clean, so there were no issues at all🚿

You can charge devices with 220V, and toothbrushes and toothpaste are provided,

so not needing to bring your own toothbrush is super convenient 🪥

4. The Pool

Hyatt Regency's pool isn't huge, but

it has pool beds and is the perfect size for a relaxing dip.

There's also a shallow area perfect for kids to play in,

so bringing toddlers is no problem at all.

Here's a tip: go in the morning to enjoy it without direct sunlight!

I definitely went at 10 AM, but as time passed,

the sun started to hit the pool ☀️

It's perfect to go before 11 AM, have a swim, and then enjoy some cup ramen.

Since the pool is free to use,

if you quickly head there in the morning before it gets crowded,

you can rinse off feeling refreshed after your swim and kickstart your day of exploration, which was wonderful.

✔️Overall Review

The Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu

is, in my opinion, the absolute best location

among all the places I've visited in Kota Kinabalu twice.

If you're looking for a 5-star accommodation with a pool and no worries about hygiene,

I confidently recommend it ◡̈

I was so satisfied with this accommodation that I'd stay here a third time,

so make sure to book it at the lowest price before your Kota Kinabalu trip〰
