While Madrid might seem like just a stopover for many travelers in Spain, as the capital, it's quite a large city, and picking the wrong accommodation location can make your sightseeing routes pretty inconvenient.

When I travel, my top priority for accommodation is a location close to the city center, minimizing the hassle of lugging my luggage around. That's why I recommend staying near Atocha Station in Madrid.

Here are a few reasons why:

🎈Direct Connection from the Airport to the City Center via Airport Bus and Train

The airport bus connects Madrid Airport to Atocha Station in about 40 minutes.

Since Atocha Station is the final stop for the airport bus, there's no need for additional transfers. When heading back to the airport, it's the starting point, making it easy to board with luggage and ensuring you can catch your bus right on time.

Moreover, the Cercanías train line, which functions as an airport rail link, also passes through Atocha Station, giving you more options for airport-to-city travel.

A hostel that feels anything but a hostel

After taking the train from Seville and getting off at Atocha Station, I arrived at Latroupe Prado Hostel just across the street.

Despite its name, the facilities, right from the entrance, made me wonder if it was really a hostel. Arriving early in the morning, I decided to try for an early check-in.

Various notices at the check-in desk. Breakfast operates on a shift system.

It seems they've divided it this way for convenience, as the dining area is a bit small for the size of the accommodation.

This lobby-like space next to the reception. Isn't it gorgeous? I wish it were my living room!

The building's winding staircase just oozes European charm.

Haha, it's exactly the color palette and interior design I love!

3. Twin Bed Crush Room

I arrived a little past 9 AM, and they actually let me check in!

If not, I would have had to store my luggage and head out, so I was incredibly lucky. I went to my room, feeling absolutely thrilled with my bags.

The moment I stepped in, I was completely satisfied—the room was spacious and spotless!!!

Latroupe Prado Hostel offers a truly wide variety of room types.

True to its hostel nature, there are 8-person and 6-person dorms, as well as 4-person and 3-person rooms perfect for families. I opted for a twin-bed room.

When I was considering room types, the 3-person room was unusually cheaper, but I chose the twin room because the day before my arrival had no bookings.

Let me explain....

I found reviews suggesting they do offer early check-in, but it's usually only possible if the room was vacant the night before, right?

So, I specifically searched for available dates prior to my stay and intentionally paid a little extra for the twin room, and thankfully, it seems there were no further bookings after that. :)

Coming all the way from Seville on an early morning train, I really wanted to check in and either rest or freshen up in the room as soon as possible.

Near the entrance, there's a washbasin, with two doors on either side. Personally, this was a bit inconvenient for me—having the washbasin, handwashing area, and shower all separated. Why exactly...?

Anyway, it's nice that it's clean. Amenities are wall-mounted, and the showerhead is a rainfall type.

There's also a power outlet right next to the bed, which is super convenient for charging your phone while you sleep...

Honestly, I only stayed one night in Madrid before heading back to Korea from Spain, and I barely slept because I was frantically trying to balance and redistribute my luggage...

Haha...

At the foot of the bed, there's a spacious sofa, and the room boasts two large, double-door windows that open up to create a small balcony-like space, enough to step out and stand. This definitely gives off those lovely European vibes, doesn't it?

But, honestly, there wasn't much of a view, so I just stepped out for a moment and came right back in, haha.

There are so many hangers available – a whole world of them! It's perfect for comfortably hanging all your clothes.

It seems super convenient for longer stays.

4. Latroupe Prado Hostel Breakfast

Having arrived in Madrid early in the morning without eating anything, I inquired about breakfast while checking in.

I had only booked the room without breakfast, but since I hadn't planned any breakfast spots in Madrid anyway, I figured having breakfast here would be a good idea.

After paying for breakfast during check-in, they gave me a ticket like the one above.

It's marked as the 4th shift.

This isn't just a space for guests; it operates as a public cafe and transforms into a bar at night.

Only the breakfast buffet is exclusively for guests, while on one side, you can purchase coffee or pastries separately.

I put together a simple pan con tomate. I also grabbed some orange juice and a mandarin orange.

And I picked up a few cold cuts, including chorizo.

Since I wasn't planning on having a huge meal anyway, the breakfast buffet felt just right. Breakfast is 9 Euros per person.

My husband brought me coffee, so a warm Americano was the perfect finish!

It felt great to start the day efficiently right after arriving in Madrid, without wasting any time.

5. Common Areas and Facilities

After breakfast, we went out to explore and returned late at night. Being next to a main road instead of a secluded alley, it didn't feel scary at all. There were plenty of cars and people around even late in the evening.

In the basement, there's a lounge-like area where people can gather, eat, or relax, and this is where all the hostel's facilities are located.

These aspects were probably the points where I thought, 'Oh, right, this is a hostel!'

While the rooms themselves offer a quality that doesn't feel like a hostel, these facilities are really well-maintained. If you opt for a dorm room, it's about ~$21-28 per night, which feels quite reasonable for the quality of the facilities.

Laundry service is available for a fee, and I didn't use it myself, so I'm not sure of the exact cost. However, reviews suggest it's quite affordable.

There's also a vending machine, but a can of Coke is around 3 Euros... so definitely buy yours at a supermarket instead, lol.

Lockers available for luggage storage before/after check-in.

I understand that luggage storage here is paid. They allowed me an early check-in, but otherwise, I would have had to pay to store my bags.

The lockers are clean and well-maintained, but it felt a bit stingy to have to pay for luggage storage – it's the first time I've encountered that while traveling;

Personally, Latroupe Prado Hostel was a truly satisfying accommodation, and my husband was also very impressed with it. I genuinely think it would be a fantastic choice even for a family trip.
