Bled, a quintessential Slovenian tourist destination, is just about a
45-minute drive from Ljubljana, making it a perfect spot for a
day trip.
There are also buses available from Ljubljana Central Bus Station
directly to the vicinity of Lake Bled, so
visiting by public transport is definitely an option.
I visited by rental car as I was exploring several cities together.
However, be aware that parking near Lake Bled can be quite expensive,
and spaces might be scarce during peak season.
It's always best to check parking availability beforehand!
Many of Lake Bled's iconic attractions are conveniently located
on the eastern side of the lake, making it ideal to explore
the scenic views and photo spots as you travel from the Heart of Bled
all the way to Bled Castle.

1. Scenes from a Walk Around Lake Bled

I spent two nights in Bled, and the first glimpse I caught of
Lake Bled upon arrival was absolutely breathtaking.
It was truly stunning!
The emerald waters of the lake, framed by the majestic
Julian Alps in the background, created a scene that was
simply astonishingly beautiful.
Even with the on-and-off rainy weather,
I just had to revisit and explore it again the next day.

The circumference of Lake Bled is approximately 6 kilometers, so walking around the entire lake can be quite challenging.
I recommend walking only about 30% of the circumference, from the 'Heart of Bled' to Bled Castle.
If you want to explore the entire lake, you can rent a bicycle at the tourist information center, and I'd suggest cycling around for the full experience.

Parks surround the lake, allowing you to soak in the relaxed and peaceful scenery.
Perched high on a cliff is Bled Castle, and next to it, St. Martin's Church. It truly felt like a scene straight out of a fairy tale!

Swans and ducks glided across the lake, and with the blue sky reflecting on the water, it was just wonderful to sit quietly on a bench in the shade, and simply take it all in.

They say the scenery changes with each season: emerald lake and lush green forests in spring and summer, vibrant autumn leaves, and snow-capped mountains in winter. Knowing that, it's definitely a place I'd love to visit again in winter.
2. Recommended Photo Spots at Lake Bled

I took so many photos at Lake Bled, but the spot I recommend most is right here! It's perfect for photos with Bled Castle in the background.
Actually, I noticed some young locals taking photos here, so I followed suit, and it turned out to be amazing! Bled Castle on the cliff looked absolutely stunning from this angle.

Another must-visit photo spot is the 'Heart of Bled.' With the heart sculpture, the lake, and the Julian Alps in the background, it's the perfect setup for that Instagram-worthy shot!
However, I went in the afternoon, and the backlight was quite strong, which made commemorative photos a bit challenging. If you want to take great portrait photos at the 'Heart of Bled,' make sure to visit in the morning for the best light!
3. Things to Enjoy Around the Lake

As I was walking around the lake, I stumbled upon a small art museum. At the time, they were featuring a Banksy-related exhibition.
It was so small and unassuming that I initially mistook it for a souvenir shop, but it actually hosts ticketed exhibitions. The exhibitions change periodically, and I believe they're currently featuring a LEGO-themed exhibit.
I personally thought the entrance fee was a bit steep compared to its modest exterior, so I didn't go inside. However, if there's an exhibition that sparks your interest, definitely check it out!

Along the main road above the lake, you'll find plenty of restaurants and cafes, where you can enjoy a meal with a stunning lake view.
Most people were relaxing with a drink or a coffee, savoring the tranquil lake views. I really wanted to enjoy a drink on an outdoor terrace, but it suddenly started raining, so I had to give up and head back to my accommodation.
If you visit on a sunny day, I highly recommend taking some time to relax with a cup of tea or coffee, while admiring the beautiful scenery of Lake Bled.
4. Pletna Boat Dock and Bled Island

The most distinctive feature of Lake Bled is
the small island right in the middle of the lake.
On the island, you'll find the Church of the Assumption of Mary and a small café,
and you can reach it by taking a Pletna, a traditional wooden boat.
The combined price for the Pletna ride and the entrance fee to the Church of the Assumption of Mary is quite steep,
and since I'm not a big fan of boats, I didn't actually visit.
However, reviews from those who did visit are quite positive, so it might be worth checking out if you're interested.
As for me, I was perfectly happy with the view from outside the lake, so I didn't feel like I missed out too much.
5. Bled Tourist Information Center

Near the heart of Bled,
you'll find the Bled Tourist Information Center, which I stopped by.
It's located on the second floor, a bit tucked away inside, but the signage is pretty clear,
so it wasn't hard to find.

They have all sorts of tourist information pamphlets available,
so you can browse and pick up anything you need.

You can also rent bicycles here.
It's 8 Euros for 1 hour, or 15 Euros for 3 hours.
If you're planning to cycle around the whole lake,
I'd recommend the 3-hour rental.

They also sell souvenirs inside, which I checked out,
but I didn't find any designs that really caught my eye.

They even had a Slovenia tourist guide in Korean for sale, which I took a quick look at.
However, there wasn't anything particularly special written in it,
so I'd recommend just sticking to the free information pamphlets or the bike rental.
6. Bled Souvenir Shop

There's a large souvenir shop near the Tourist Information Center,
and I highly recommend it because it has a really wide variety of items.

They had cute merchandise related to Triglav, Slovenia's symbol and highest peak,
as well as miniature Slovenian spirits and Bled magnets.

There were so many keyrings and magnets with cute designs,
I spent quite a while browsing everything.

Slovenia is also famous for its beer,
and they even sell craft beer
and merchandise featuring Ljubljana's iconic dragon!
They have a variety of merchandise
related to Bled and Slovenia,
so after exploring the beautiful Lake Bled,
I highly recommend stopping by at the end of your trip.
