📍 The Heart of Bled

St. Martin's Church is located near Lake Bled, right at the start of the path leading up to Bled Castle.
It's perfectly situated for a visit while you're strolling along Lake Bled and heading towards Bled Castle.
That's why I highly recommend visiting the church along with Lake Bled and the castle, rather than just the church by itself.

You can also take the stairs directly from the lakeside up to the church,
but I visited after having lunch at Mega Burger, so I took a slightly more charming alleyway.
If you're driving, you can access it via this road. However, it seems the church's parking lot is only open during mass, so please be aware that you'll need to use a nearby paid parking facility.

1. A Beautiful Church Nestled Below Bled Castle

When I first saw St. Martin's Church while strolling along Lake Bled,
I immediately thought its white, pointed exterior was truly beautiful.
But upon arriving at St. Martin's Church and seeing it up close,
I was surprised by its larger-than-expected scale, and the courtyard offering views of Lake Bled was absolutely stunning.
What's more, St. Martin's Church actually boasts a much older history than I had imagined!
It's a place where a worship space has existed for over a thousand years, and the St. Martin's Church you see today is a Neo-Gothic building constructed in 1905.
It's not just a beautiful building; there's so much more to it.
This isn't just a historical site; it's still an actively functioning main church, so
you might even catch a mass on weekday evenings or Sundays!
Just a heads-up: visitor access might be restricted during mass times,
so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

Right in front of the church, you'll find a monument dedicated to Jože Plečnik,
one of Slovenia's most celebrated architects.
It depicts the Virgin Mary, and I noticed many people reverently
praying towards it.

As I drew closer, I was struck by the soaring ceilings and magnificent carvings
that were almost too grand to take in all at once.
I didn't make it to Bled Island, so I missed out on visiting
the Church of the Assumption of Mary. But I felt like visiting
St. Martin's Church helped to soothe that slight disappointment, even if just a little.
2. Discovering the Splendid Frescoes and Interior of St. Martin's Church (for Free!)

During my visit, entering the church's interior was wonderfully free and easy.
While Google Maps indicates it's always open, access might be limited due to church events,
so I highly recommend checking their official website before you go.
It's a fantastic spot that you can explore without any admission fee, and I found myself
quietly taking it all in with a truly reverent heart.

The exterior presented a clean and serene facade, but stepping inside the church
revealed an interior far more magnificent than I had imagined, truly impressive!

The windows were adorned with exquisite stained glass, allowing soft light to stream in,
illuminating and beautifying the church's interior even further.

What truly captivated my attention were the paintings that completely covered the interior walls.
These murals are renowned frescoes created by the Slovenian artist Slavko Pengov.
With religious scenes intricately painted across every available space, I found myself slowly wandering through, mesmerized by each detail.

The main altar at the very front was a breathtaking sight, adorned with even more opulent stained glass,
and intricate carvings, which made me linger there for quite a while.
With a peaceful heart, I offered a silent prayer for the safety of my travels and the well-being of my family.

Towards the back of the church, you'll discover a magnificent organ.
With its soaring pipes, intricate pillars, and graceful arches on the ground floor,
it truly looked like a grand crown to me.

As there weren't many people around during my visit,
I didn't get to hear the organ play, but
I loved standing before it and slowly taking in the grandeur of the interior.

Beyond that, **each and every decoration you see everywhere**
**felt like a work of art**.
It was a place I stopped by on the way to Bled Castle without any special information,
but both its exterior and interior were so beautiful that
it felt like a wonderful gift from the trip.

Before leaving, I made a small donation,
lit a candle, and wished for my family's well-being.
St. Martin's Church is **a must-visit spot in Bled** and
**a great place to go along with Lake Bled and Bled Castle**.
I **recommend visiting it as part of a route:
Lake Bled - St. Martin's Church - Bled Castle**.
