La Maison des Armateurs Saint-Malo Review 2026: Stay Inside the Walls
Discover the charm of Saint-Malo, France, with a stay at La Maison des Armateurs in 2026. This 4-star boutique hotel offers prime access to historic ramparts and local delights.

Saint-Malo, a prominent port city in the Brittany region of northwestern France, is an enchanting coastal fortress town encircled by formidable granite ramparts.
With a history deeply rooted in the activities of corsairs (state-approved pirates) and wealthy shipowners who operated in the English Channel, it's famously known as the 'City of Pirates.'

During my journey from Southern France to Paris, I made sure to stop in Saint-Malo.
I highly recommend exploring France's charming smaller cities!
'La Maison des Armateurs)' is a 4-star boutique hotel I stayed at in the heart of the old town (Intra-Muros) within the walls of Saint-Malo, a representative coastal fortress city in the Brittany region of France.
The hotel's name, 'Maison des Armateurs,' translates to 'House of Shipowners,' perfectly capturing the historic ambiance of Saint-Malo, which once thrived on maritime trade and corsair activities.

Situated on the 'Grand Rue,' the main street of the old town, it’s just a short 1-3 minute walk from key attractions like St-Vincent Cathedral, the rampart viewpoints, shopping areas, and delightful restaurants. This prime location made it perfect for enjoying fresh oyster dishes and a glass of wine in the evenings.

One of the highlights of the walled city (Intra-Muros) of Saint-Malo is the opportunity to stroll along its robust granite ramparts. From here, you can simultaneously admire the breathtaking emerald waters and the charming, quaint streets of the old town within the walls – truly a fantastic experience for a leisurely walk.

The National Fort is a fortress designed in the 17th century by the renowned French military architect Vauban, built on a rocky islet in the middle of the sea.
It's accessible on foot during low tide, and guided tours allow you to explore its historic cannons and defensive structures.
