Hello, fellow explorers! I'm **Seomtopia**, your **guide to Korea's West Coast and its stunning islands**, based in Yeongjongdo, and a **travel creator**! :)
If you're already dreaming up your September domestic travel plans,
this year, you might find there's more to explore than just the usual famous autumn festivals!
Along the **western coastal region**, you'll find festivals connecting tidal flats, salt farms,
grape growing regions, and scenic coastal roads.
And in **Gunsan**, they even have island programs where you journey by boat!
Plus, this year brings an extra special event to the calendar!

For two months, as part of the September festivals,
**Yeosu** will host the spectacular **World Island Expo**, where you can even find exciting on-site programs that link real islands like Geumodo and Gaedo.
That's why this time, from all the September festivals,
I've carefully picked out just 5 incredible spots that truly connect with islands and the sea.

But here's a heads-up: for **one particular spot**,
**waiting until the event day will be too late!**
The **Gunsan Eocheongdo Romantic Trip, taking place on September 5th**, is **accepting participants until August 23rd**, so if you're interested, you'll need to check the application schedule right away.
And on the third weekend of the month,
the Siheung Gaetgol Festival and the Daebu Grape Festival
are happening back-to-back, just a day apart!

Let's summarize to get straight to the good stuff: |
Island hopping by ferry → Eocheongdo |
Nationwide island experiences → Yeosu |
Flowers and the West Coast Sea → Taean |
Tidal flat & salt farm experience with kids → Siheung |
Autumn day trip near Seoul → Daebudo |
Choosing your adventure this way makes it easy!
In this post, out of all the incredible West Coast island trips we're recommending,
we won't just list dates.
Instead, we'll compare each one, giving you the full picture of
**when, with whom, and in what style** is best to travel.
Your Quick Guide: Dates & Travel Styles

When planning your September domestic travel, the first thing to consider isn't
popularity, but rather the **dates and style of your trip**.
Especially this year, schedules are packed around September 5th and
the third week of the month.

On September 5th, programs in Gunsan and
the Yeosu event kick off.
From September 17th, Taean's flower festival begins,
followed by Siheung's programs on the 18th,
and Daebudo's event starting on the 19th.

However, the vibe and nature of these five destinations are quite distinct.
Eocheongdo offers a genuine island journey, reached by taking a ferry,
while Siheung and Daebudo, on the other hand, are conveniently located for those in Seoul and the greater metropolitan area,
making them perfect for easy day trips.
When visiting Taean, it's more rewarding to combine its beautiful coastline and sunsets rather than just seeing the flowers,
As for Yeosu, it's best experienced by exploring its nationwide island content this year,
rather than focusing on a single event.

In September, instead of picking an event name first, it's easier to choose your destination if you decide whether to go to an island, make it a day trip, or include activities for kids. |
Starting Off: Eocheongdo and Yeosu
① Gunsan Eocheongdo Romantic Getaway |

Category | Details |
Schedule | September 5, 2026 |
Location | Gunsan Eocheongdo |
Application Period | August 15 – August 23 |
Type | Island trip via passenger ferry |
Important Checks | Application, ferry schedule, weather |
Among these five spots,
the one I want to introduce first is
Gunsan Eocheongdo.
Unlike places you can drive directly to,
you'll need to take a passenger ferry here,
so the preparation process is a bit different.

Eocheongdo is an island you can only reach
by venturing into the western sea from Gunsan Port,
so the preparation process is different from destinations
like Daebudo or Siheung, where you can drive directly.
While the event date is September 5th,
what's more crucial than the event date
is the participant recruitment period.
Since applications are open from August 15th to 23rd,
if you're reading this in August,
this is the first place you should check among the five.

Eocheongdo is a destination that requires you
to start your preparations earlier than the other four places.
While you might be able to spontaneously visit mainland events,
getting to this island can be tricky if your application and ferry schedule don't align.

Island trips, in particular,
can have their schedules directly affected by weather and ferry operating conditions.
Therefore, even if you've completed your application,
it's a good idea to double-check the ferry's operating status before you depart.
