Komeda's Coffee: A Local Favorite Near Otaru Canal
Your Perfect Stop on a Sapporo Otaru Trip
During a recent day trip to Otaru from Sapporo, we were looking for a cozy cafe near the iconic Otaru Canal to rest our feet. That's when we stumbled upon Komeda's Coffee!

As a well-known chain across Japan, Komeda's offers guaranteed quality, not just for coffee but also for a variety of delicious meals. It's a fantastic local spot, perfect even for lunch!
Location

📍 Komeda's Coffee
2 Chome-3-2 Ironai, Otaru, Hokkaido 047-0031 Japan
This cafe is conveniently located just a 4-minute walk from the Otaru Canal.
It's an ideal spot to unwind with a coffee after exploring the charming Music Box Museum or browsing the nearby shopping streets, making it an easy addition to any itinerary.

Since we rented a car for our Otaru adventure, having ample parking was a huge plus. Komeda's has a spacious parking lot right in front of the cafe, saving us the hassle and cost of finding a spot!
Interior Ambiance

The interior boasts a warm, wood-toned design with plenty of comfortable sofa seating, creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Tables aren't too close together, and the overall vibe was more of quiet conversations rather than a noisy bustle, which we really appreciated.

Aside from us, all the other customers seemed to be locals, which made it feel like we'd found a true hidden gem, despite it being a chain.

They also have several single seats, perfect for solo travelers or those needing a moment of quiet. A thoughtful touch: each single seat comes with a power outlet, which is super handy for charging devices while you relax!

There are even separate rooms for taking phone calls and a designated smoking area, catering to various needs.
Menu Highlights

The menu embodies that classic Japanese chain cafe charm. You'll find a wide selection of coffees and beverages, alongside substantial meal options like Katsu Sando, hamburgers, and various desserts – perfect for a satisfying bite or a full lunch.
Our Order: Coffee & Katsu Sando

One of the best things about cafes in Japan is that you can almost always count on good coffee! Even for a chain, Komeda's uses quality beans, ensuring a pleasant brew.
The orange juice came in a bottle, and while we weren't sure if it was a generic brand, it was definitely tasty!

As a nice touch, a small portion of nuts was served alongside our drinks.

We initially thought the Katsu Sando was a bit pricey, assuming it was due to the tourist location. However, when it arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by its generous size! It was easily enough to fill two adults when paired with our coffees.

The pork cutlet was thick and juicy, and the rich sauce made it even more delicious than we expected.
If you're exploring Otaru and looking for a local favorite cafe or a satisfying meal, we highly recommend checking out Komeda's Coffee!
