My foodie friend couldn't stop raving about Kim Myung-joo Tteulan Chae Bapsang in Wondang, Goyang. Experience authentic Hansik with an incredible all-you-can-eat side dish bar!

My foodie friend, Lujiwon, a true connoisseur, couldn't stop singing its praises!
They insisted I had to visit this place!
No matter which Hansik (Korean traditional full-course meal) restaurant we'd try,
Lujiwon would always compare it to Kim Myung-joo Tteulan Chae Bapsang,
and tirelessly remind me to make bibimbap with the incredible side dishes from their self-service refill bar!
Yes, that place!
Kim Myung-joo Tteulan Chae Bapsang has its main branch near Kkachiul Station in Bucheon.
But just recently, while on a date in Wondang, we spotted the Wondang Station branch of Kim Myung-joo Tteulan Chae Bapsang and decided it was the perfect opportunity for a Hansik date!

Kim Myung-joo Tteulan Chae Bapsang Wondang Interior

We arrived close to closing time, so the interior was pleasantly quiet.

With plenty of tables and a spacious layout, this spot is perfect for group gatherings or family meals!
There was also a second floor, but it was closed for the night, so we didn't get to explore it.

Next to the refill self-service bar, a refrigerator offered Nongbu Sikye (a traditional sweet rice beverage) and various side dishes for purchase.
Kim Myung-joo Tteulan Chae Bapsang Self-Service Bar
The best part: an all-you-can-eat side dish bar!

Wow, the self-service bar was absolutely jaw-dropping!
Most Hansik restaurants serve a basic set of side dishes and require you to ring a bell or ask a staff member for refills.
But here, they coolly laid out *all* the side dishes for self-service at the refill bar!

All dishes are prepared fresh daily to be consumed on the same day.
The kitchen closes at 8:20 PM, and the self-service bar is tidied up around then!

High chairs for babies are also available, and you can see the premium Shindongjin rice and glutinous rice on display.

You can easily check the origin of ingredients right at the counter when you pay!

We ordered two Tteulan Chae Bapsang sets and a single order of Soy-Marinated Crab.

Each meal comes with its own stone pot rice. The moment I lifted the lid, a cloud of steam, a true 'stone pot mist,' enveloped us!

We cut the soy-marinated crab into smaller, easier-to-eat pieces!

We scooped out the rice and started preparing the soongnyung (scorched rice tea).

A rich doenjang-jjigae (fermented soybean paste stew) also arrived.

My sweet partner, Yongbam, thoughtfully squeezed the soy-marinated crab onto my rice, so I could enjoy it without getting my hands messy. Yum!

We piled rice into crisp lettuce leaves, wrapped them up, and devoured our ssam (wraps)!

We even mixed some rice with the doenjang-jjigae (which had a deep, almost cheonggukjang-like flavor) for another delicious bite.

But the absolute best was the bibimbap we made by mixing in all the incredible side dishes from the self-service bar!
Now I completely understand why Lujiwon, who has visited this place many times, insisted on making bibimbap this way!

If things got a little salty, a spoonful of the warm soongnyung was the perfect palate cleanser.

We absolutely cleared our Hansik plates!
We even had some soy-marinated crab left over and got it packed to go!

Finishing off with a cup of complimentary mixed coffee or freshly brewed coffee on the way out made for an absolutely perfect dinner.
This is definitely a spot I'd love to revisit with my parents, and certainly again for another date with my boyfriend!
Kim Myeong-ju Tteulanchae Bapsang Wondang Station branch operates from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM. The last order is at 8:20 PM, and kitchen closing and self-bar tidying also take place at this time.
For two or more people, the Tteulanchae set menus available are: Dried Yellow Corvina/Soy-Marinated Crab Set (~$21 per person), Charcoal-Grilled Pork Set (~$21 per person), Cockle Salad Set (~$19 per person), and Grilled Mackerel Set (~$17 per person). If you wish to add a main dish à la carte, you can order the Tteulanchae Bapsang for ~$9 per person.
At the self-bar, you can freely refill rice, water, and all side dishes. Additionally, you can purchase Nongbu Sikhae (farmer's rice punch) and other side dishes separately from the refrigerator next to the self-bar.
This article recommends making bibimbap by adding all the side dishes from the self-bar. It mentions that mixing various side dishes into the hot pot rice makes it even more delicious.
