🥩Osaka Local Yakiniku Hotspot
I highly recommend Kappo YP Ryu Nishi-Shinsaibashi if you:
✔︎ Are searching for an amazing yakiniku restaurant in Osaka
✔︎ Want to dine where the locals actually go
✔︎ Need a great yakiniku spot to treat your parents

Osaka's local yakiniku gem,
Kappo YP Ryu Nishi-Shinsaibashi,
is super close to Shinsaibashi Station—just a 1 to 2-minute walk!
Best of all, it's only about a 10-minute walk
from Dotonbori, where the famous Glico Man sign is.
So it's the perfect location to head for dinner
after exploring and sightseeing around the Dotonbori River.
The Interior

Kappo YP Ryu Nishi-Shinsaibashi offers cozy counter seating,

as well as regular tables, making it perfect for a romantic date
or a family dinner with your parents, just like I did.
Sitting at the counter has the perk of letting you
watch the chef prepare the dishes right in front of you.
But this time, to enjoy a more relaxed meal with my parents,
I booked a regular table instead of the counter.

There's also storage space for bags under the seats,
so a heavy packer like me could easily stash my things
and enjoy the meal comfortably.
Dinner Courses at Kappo YP Ryu Nishi-Shinsaibashi

They offer dinner courses priced at
7,000 yen (~$43), 9,000 yen (~$55), and 10,000 yen (~$61).
We went with the 7,000 yen (~$43) dinner course,
which includes 3 kinds of appetizers, beef tartare (yukhoe), Wagyu and sea urchin (uni) rice bowl, tenderloin katsu sando,
6 cuts of yakiniku, Wagyu broth chazuke, and a refreshing yuzu sorbet.

While waiting for the food, they handed us warm towels,
which was a lovely touch to clean our hands before the meal.
Trio of Appetizers

Our course started off with the three appetizers.
I tried all three, but the napa cabbage kimchi totally blew me away!
The flavor was incredibly similar to authentic Korean kimchi.
My mom absolutely loved it,
giving us a fantastic feeling right from the start.
Beef Tartare (Yukhoe)

Next up was the beef tartare.
I wondered, "Will it taste as good as the ones back home?"
But wow, it was just as delicious!
It was incredibly fresh with absolutely no gamey odor.
Wagyu & Sea Urchin Rice Bowl

The third dish was the Wagyu and sea urchin (uni) rice bowl,
topped generously with fresh uni and salmon roe (ikura).
Honestly, if uni and salmon roe aren't extremely fresh, they can taste fishy.
So I was a little worried at first.
Especially since my dad is quite sensitive to fishy tastes.
But my worries were completely unfounded!
It wasn't fishy at all—just pure deliciousness!!
Tenderloin Katsu Sando

They also served us a beef tenderloin katsu sando,
and look at how thick that Wagyu is tucked between the bread!
One bite in, and while the bread was delicious,
the sheer juiciness of the Wagyu left me absolutely speechless.
My mom is still raving about how amazing that tenderloin katsu sando was! 🤣
6 Varieties of Yakiniku

✨The star of the show today!!✨
The main reason I chose Kappo YPryu Nishi-Shinsaibashi
was for this gorgeous "flower staircase" of 6 yakiniku varieties.
When they brought out the staircase yakiniku, they also showed us its official certificate.
I was amazed to see the beef's full lineage documented—from its origin
all the way to its grandparents and parents!
It turned out today’s Wagyu was sourced from Gunma Prefecture!
Just like how certain regions are legendary for premium beef,
Japan has a few prefectures renowned for their top-tier Wagyu,
and Gunma Prefecture is definitely one of them! haha.
That’s when I knew this place was the real deal for yakiniku.

For reference, the cuts of yakiniku served here
are handpicked daily based on what is freshest that day.
Today, our selection featured tri-tip (Hiuchi), knuckle center (Marushin), sirloin (Rosu),
knuckle outer (Marukawa), turtle shell cut (Kamenoko - a rare cut near the diaphragm),
and premium special sirloin.
I was thrilled to get these rare, prized cuts
like Marushin, Kamenoko, Hiuchi, and premium special sirloin that true meat lovers rave about.
✨️Lucky us!✨️

They recommended grilling the cuts in order starting from the top of the staircase,
so we started grilling exactly as suggested!

While yakiniku is amazing with a touch of wasabi or salt,
honestly, it’s so delicious on its own that I recommend enjoying it however you like.

They advised us to grill the premium special sirloin on the plate last
and dip it in the egg yolk sauce.
Doing exactly as they said made it so rich, savory, and incredibly delicious! ❤️
I officially found the best beef of my life right here in Osaka.. 🤣
Wagyu Broth Ochazuke

By the time we finished the tenderloin katsu sando, I was starting to feel quite full.
But then they brought out the Wagyu Broth Ochazuke,
which looked absolutely mouthwatering just by appearance.
I've always really wanted to try authentic,
real-deal ochazuke in Japan.
Getting to try it in Japan was exciting enough,
but having premium Wagyu added to it made me even happier!
Yuzu Sorbet

To wrap up the dinner course, we were served a refreshing yuzu sorbet and warm tea.
Cleansing my palate with the citrusy yuzu sorbet after all that rich meat
was incredibly refreshing,
making it the perfect, satisfying end to an amazing meal.
Drinks

Yakiniku paired with a cold draft beer? Need I say more? It’s the absolute best! ✨️
Even if you don’t drink alcohol, they have options like cola or orange juice,
so you can choose whatever you prefer.
Apparently, the orange juice was super rich and delicious, so I highly recommend that too.

✔︎ My Honest Review of Kappo YPryu Nishi-Shinsaibashi, a Local Favorite Yakiniku Spot in Osaka
The upscale, elegant interior made it the perfect place to visit with parents, and being able to choose between counter and regular seating
to suit our preference was absolutely fantastic.
On this day, we got to experience Gunma Wagyu, which focuses on the deep, natural flavor of the beef rather than just heavy marbling.
Getting to try rare cuts that are hard to find elsewhere, like Hiuchi, Marushin, and Kamenoko,
made the experience truly unforgettable.
Since my parents were so incredibly satisfied, if you're planning a trip to Osaka...
If you're looking for an amazing, local-approved yakiniku spot near Dotonbori,
