Kansai Airport to Namba: Nankai Airport Express Guide 2026
From Kansai Airport Terminal 2 to Namba with kids? This guide covers the free shuttle to T1, Nankai Airport Express routes, and fares for your 2026 Osaka trip!
When planning a trip to Osaka, one of the first things many travelers look up is how to get from Kansai International Airport (KIX) to Namba Station.
For our recent trip in 2026, we flew with Peach Aviation, which uses Terminal 2, and opted for the Nankai Airport Express round trip instead of the Rapi:t.

Peach Aviation is known for potential delays, so we didn't pre-book the Rapi:t, which requires strict timing. In the end, the Nankai Airport Express was a perfect fit for our itinerary.
Flying Peach Aviation or Jeju Air? You'll start at KIX Terminal 2.
If you're flying Peach Aviation, you'll arrive at Kansai Airport's Terminal 2 (T2). To catch the airport train, you need to head to Kansai Airport Station, which is located near Terminal 1 (T1). This means taking a free shuttle bus first.

The shuttle service between T2 and T1's Aeroplaza is free of charge. According to official announcements, the travel time is approximately 7-9 minutes.

Since the terminals aren't directly connected, remember to factor in this shuttle time when planning your flight schedule. It's a small but important detail!

With two kids, suitcases, and a stroller, this part of the journey was a bit cumbersome for us. However, once you're on the bus, the transfer itself is straightforward.
Once at T1, follow signs for Nankai.
After arriving at T1, we followed the signs pointing to Nankai.
While there are ticket machines available, we opted to use the staffed ticket counter for both our inbound and outbound journeys.

If it's your first time, it's often easier to just tell the staff your destination and how many tickets you need, rather than struggling with a machine. With children's tickets to purchase, the counter felt much more convenient for us.

Nankai Airport Express: One-way for ~$6
The Nankai Airport Express offers a direct, non-stop journey from Kansai Airport to Namba. The one-way fare for an adult was 970 JPY, which is approximately ~$6 (based on a 1 USD = 150 JPY exchange rate in 2026).

The ride takes about 45 minutes, and the biggest advantage for us was not having to transfer with all our luggage. While not the cheapest option compared to some other airport trains globally, the direct service and current exchange rate make it a great value.

Although it's not a reserved seat service, we found plenty of space when we traveled, and it took us directly to Nankai Namba Station.

If your accommodation is in Namba, having a direct train service without transfers is definitely a major plus, especially when traveling with children.
Rapi:t might be better for these travelers
The Rapi:t boarding area was right next to the Nankai Airport Express.
If you're concerned about flight delays, like we were, the Airport Express offers flexibility. However, if you prefer to stick to a pre-planned schedule, or if you have lots of luggage and children and prefer the comfort of a reserved seat, the Rapi:t might be a better choice.
The Rapi:t features all reserved seating and can get you from Kansai Airport to Namba in as little as 34 minutes.→ Book Osaka Rapi:t Discount Tickets
For those who like to have their tickets ready and move quickly upon arrival, it's worth comparing Rapi:t prices as well.
Returning to the Airport: Namba to KIX by Airport Express
On our departure day, we used the same method to get back to Kansai Airport.

For three adults and one elementary school child, the total fare was 3,400 JPY, calculating to ~$6 per adult (970 JPY) and ~$3 per child (490 JPY), totaling approximately ~$23.

It was the last day of our trip, and with our suitcases and stroller, the direct journey from Namba to the airport was incredibly convenient.

By checking the timetable and choosing the right train, the return journey felt much more familiar and easier than the first day.

Arriving at T1? Peach Aviation passengers still need to transfer to T2.

Even after arriving at Kansai Airport Station (T1), if you're flying Peach Aviation, your journey isn't quite over. You'll need to transfer one more time to Terminal 2.

Simply follow the signs for T2, head down to the 1st floor of Aeroplaza, and catch the free shuttle bus.

If you're flying Peach Aviation like we did, just remember this sequence: T2 to T1 via shuttle, then Nankai Airport Express to Namba. For the return, it's the reverse, and you'll find it quite manageable!

While I was perfectly satisfied with the Airport Express this time, if my flight schedule were more stable and I wanted the added comfort of a reserved seat, I might choose the Rapi:t for a future trip.→ Book Kansai Airport Namba Rapi:t
