Maximizing Your Kansai Joy Pass
Top 3 Must-Visit Attractions in Osaka, Japan
Osaka is an incredible city packed with endless things to do and see.
If you're planning your first trip, figuring out where to start can feel a bit overwhelming.
Add the dizzying array of regional travel passes to the mix,
and it's easy to get confused about which one actually offers the best value.
Today, I'm breaking down everything you need to know about the Kansai Joy Pass—a fantastic option for first-time visitors in 2026—and sharing my top three recommendations for where to use it in Osaka!
First, let's look at the basics of the Kansai Joy Pass and
the types of attractions it covers.

📌 Here is a quick breakdown of where you can use the Kansai Joy Pass within the Osaka area.
Category | Kansai Joy Pass Included Attractions |
Experiences | Solaniwa Onsen, Tsutenkaku Tower Slider, Osaka Castle Gozabune Boat, etc. |
Attractions | Osaka Wonder Cruise, Harukas 300 Observatory, Umeda Sky Building, etc. |
Transportation | Kansai Airport Shuttle, Keihan Railway, Kansai Rent-A-Car discounts, etc. |
Dining (1,000 JPY vouchers, etc.) | Live Yakiniku Tengu, Kushikatsu Meitengotetsu, Karubito Tan, etc. |
Shopping (Gift certificates, etc.) | Bic Camera Namba, Kintetsu Department Store, Tennoji MIO, etc. |
The Kansai Joy Pass is a versatile ticket that bundles experiences, attraction entries, and shopping perks across several cities in the Kansai region, including Osaka.
You can choose between a 3-attraction or a 6-attraction pass.
The 3-attraction pass costs ~$31,
while the 6-attraction pass is ~$52.
When you factor in the standard admission fees for these spots, the value is unbeatable.
One massive perk? Unlike other rigid 1-day or 2-day passes, the Joy Pass gives you
a full week to use your selected attractions after activation,
making it ideal for travelers who prefer a slower, more flexible itinerary.

As an added bonus, when you book, you also receive a
one-way JR Haruka train ticket
from Kansai International Airport straight to Umeda, which saves you even more on transit costs!
You can check out the full list of included venues and
secure your pass at the link below!
Even if you're only staying in Osaka, the Joy Pass offers so many choices that narrowing them down can be tough.
To help you get your money's worth, I've handpicked three must-visit attractions
that normally have high entry fees,
making them the absolute best ways to maximize your pass!
1. Harukas 300 Observatory

My first recommendation is the stunning Harukas 300 Observatory.
Standard admission is 2,000 JPY (approx. $13),
so using your pass here instantly gives you great ROI.
Simply show your digital Joy Pass at the ticket counter,
and they'll swap it for a physical entry ticket.
Night entry is fully covered, which is exactly why we went in the evening.

Harukas offers sweeping 360-degree panoramic views of the Osaka skyline.
Because it's the tallest building in the immediate area,
you get completely unobstructed, breathtaking sightlines.

There are comfortable sofas dotted around the floor-to-ceiling windows,
or you can grab a drink from the onsite cafe
and soak in the romantic, glittering nightscape at your own pace!
2. Umeda Sky Building (Kuchu Teien Observatory)

The second spot is the iconic Umeda Sky Building,
another incredible urban observatory.
While it might seem similar to Harukas, visiting the Sky Building during the day
offers a completely different vibe and perspective,
making it absolutely worth doing both.
Just like Harukas, the official ticket price is 2,000 JPY,
so it's another high-value redemption for your pass.

The building's futuristic architecture is legendary,
and the interior design is full of unique, photogenic angles.
You still get 360-degree city views,
but the scenery here feels distinct from the southern part of the city.

Specifically, you get a gorgeous view of the Yodo River to the north!
Paired with a clear, blue Japanese sky,
the open river view is incredibly refreshing,
which is why I highly recommend visiting this one while the sun is up.

The observatory itself is the suspended "bridge" connecting the two towers,
so walking around the open-air roof deck
literally feels like you're floating in the sky.

❗️ Crucial tip: The Joy Pass allows free entry
only until 5:00 PM.
However, a different popular pass (the Osaka Amazing Pass)
cuts off its free entry at 3:00 PM,
meaning the observatory gets insanely crowded between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
(You could easily be waiting over 30 minutes just for the elevator.)
💡 Therefore, aim to arrive right after 3:00 PM.
The crowds completely clear out, giving you a much more relaxing experience.
Plus, if you visit around 4:00 PM, you can catch the transition from late afternoon to golden hour!
3. Osaka Wonder Cruise

My final pick is an experiential attraction:
the Osaka Wonder Cruise.
This is a 20-minute boat ride down the famous Dotonbori River.
Once again, the standard ticket is 2,000 JPY.

Unlike the observatories, the Wonder Cruise
requires an advance reservation even if you have the Joy Pass,
and the pass is only valid for departures after 5:00 PM.

You might think it's just a standard river cruise,
but gliding through the neon-lit heart of Dotonbori,
surrounded by the massive, buzzing crowds on the bridges above,
is an incredibly unique and cinematic experience.
It's arguably the most vibrant way to soak in the chaotic energy of Dotonbori,
so I highly recommend adding this to your evening itinerary.

The Kansai Joy Pass is a fantastic, wide-reaching pass designed for
travelers exploring multiple cities in the region,
but as you can see, it holds tremendous value even if you never leave Osaka.
By strategically targeting premium attractions like the
Wonder Cruise, Harukas 300, and the Umeda Sky Building,
you're essentially getting entry for half the normal price,
leaving you with more cash for sushi and souvenirs.

I hope this guide helps you build the perfect Osaka itinerary!
