You can sit comfortably with your luggage next to you, which reduces stress for travelers with lots of bags. Both trains depart directly from Kansai Airport Station.

Haruka vs. Rapit: Three Key Decision Factors

If you’re torn between the two trains, just consider these three points:

First, your hotel’s location.

This is the most crucial factor. The Haruka Express heads towards Tennoji, Shin-Osaka, and Kyoto.

It doesn’t go directly to the Namba/Shinsaibashi downtown area. The Rapit, on the other hand, takes you straight to Nankai Namba Station.

Second, luggage and transfers.

If your hotel is in Namba but you take the Haruka, you’ll need to transfer to a subway at Tennoji or Shin-Osaka.

Transferring with a suitcase, especially when traveling solo, can be surprisingly cumbersome.

Haruka Express vs. Rapit: My Direct Comparison

The Haruka Express takes about 30 minutes to Tennoji, around 50 minutes to Shin-Osaka, and roughly 80 minutes to Kyoto from Kansai Airport.

As it’s a JR line, it’s ideal for seamless transfers to the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka or for continuing your journey to Kyoto.

If your itinerary combines both Osaka and Kyoto, the Haruka is definitely more advantageous.

The Nankai Rapit travels from Kansai Airport to Nankai Namba in about 35 to 40 minutes.

Things to Consider When Choosing Haruka

The Haruka Express does have its drawbacks. The main one is that it doesn’t go directly to the Namba/Shinsaibashi downtown area.

If your hotel is in that area, you’ll need to transfer to a subway at Tennoji or Shin-Osaka, which can be quite inconvenient with large luggage.

Also, the Haruka generally has slightly longer intervals between trains compared to the Rapit.

It’s a good idea to check the train timetable in advance to match your arrival time.

If you’re definitely staying in Namba, there’s no real reason to choose the Haruka. In that case, the Rapit is the simpler solution.
