Kamakura has been buzzing recently, gaining popularity through various media.

I first discovered Kamakura a few years ago through a YouTube video by 'Ohayo Tokyo'.

Inspired by their content, I decided to follow their suggested itinerary myself.

Instead of a day trip from Tokyo, my journey this time involved an overnight stay in Yokohama before heading to Kamakura.

If you're planning a trip to Kamakura from the Tokyo area, I highly recommend this route: spend a night in Yokohama, then make your way to Kamakura.

Kamakura Station Noriorikun Pass

Upon arriving at Kamakura Station, the first thing I did was purchase the Enoden 1-Day Pass, known as Noriorikun (のりおりくん).

The Enoden is a charming local train that runs along the coast between Kamakura and Enoshima. It's the primary mode of transportation connecting major tourist spots in Kamakura like Kamakurakokomae Station, Yuigahama, and Hase.

The Noriorikun pass allows you unlimited rides on the entire Enoden line for one day. It's definitely worth buying if you plan to ride the Enoden more than 4 times!

From Kamakura Station, I took the Enoden to Kamakurakokomae Station.

The narrow railway winding through residential areas, the sparkling sunlight, and the fleeting scenery with every curve — it was exactly the enchanting atmosphere I'd seen in YouTube videos and dramas.

After about a 20-minute ride from Kamakura Station, I arrived at Kamakurakokomae Station.

Though it's a small, unassuming station, it's famous as the backdrop for the opening sequence of the anime 'Slam Dunk,' so the area in front of the station was bustling with people taking photos.

Honestly, I'm not very familiar with 'Slam Dunk,' but the scenery itself is simply gorgeous.. ♥

This is the famous photo spot, and it was incredibly crowded.

Whenever a train passed, people swarmed to get their shots, making it quite chaotic.

Since the area right in front of the tracks was crowded and seemed a bit risky, I climbed up a little higher to take my photos.

From there, I could see the entire ocean, and the view from above was equally beautiful and satisfying.

I had planned to explore Kamakura High School, but visitors aren't allowed inside, so I just briefly looked around the station area before heading off for lunch.

For lunch, I headed to Matsubaruan Soba, a Yuigahama restaurant I'd seen on YouTube.

It's about a 5-minute walk from Yuigahama Station.

This soba restaurant, nestled in a quiet residential area, has the ambiance of a traditional Japanese garden.

Stepping past the white noren curtain, you enter a truly serene space. The weather was lovely, so I opted for an outdoor seat.

I ordered the Tenzaru Soba.

While the soba itself was delicious, the tempura was truly exceptional.

Kamakura has many famous restaurants, but Matsubaruan is incredibly tasty and highly recommended!

After the meal, I normally would have walked a bit, but October in Japan was still quite warm. So, I used my Enoden pass to travel just one stop to Wadazuka Station.

Mushinan Cafe

Mushinan is a traditional Japanese house cafe located right next to the Enoden railway tracks.

This was a Kamakura cafe with a wonderful ambiance that I'd really wanted to visit after seeing it in the 'Ohayo Tokyo' video.

The sound of the passing trains didn't feel like noise at all; instead, it added to the quiet, relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to unwind.

The tatami seats with garden views were all taken, so I was guided to a table with a smaller, partial view of the garden.

Their signature menu item is Anmitsu. I ordered the Cream Anmitsu, which includes ice cream.

It was sweet and refreshing, and priced at a reasonable ~$5, making it a delightful treat :)

My boyfriend, who gets hot easily, naturally ordered ice cream.

Komachidori Shopping Street

Before heading back to Yokohama, I got off at Kamakura Station and made my way to Komachidori.

This shopping street is a must-visit in Kamakura, filled with souvenirs, desserts, and various snacks.

As I walked through the shopping street, I was drawn in by the aroma coming from Giraffa, famous for its curry bread.

It turns out this is a renowned eatery, having won the Curry Bread Grand Prix three years in a row!

After ordering, there's a small eating area right next door, so I could enjoy it warm right away.

The crispy texture combined with the curry and cheese was absolutely divine. I highly recommend trying it if you visit Kamakura!

After a half-day of exploring Kamakura, I returned to Yokohama.

Kamakura offered a relaxed, quiet, almost rural charm that's hard to find in Tokyo. The scenery, where the sea meets the train tracks, filled me with a delightful sense of being on vacation with every step.

If you've visited Tokyo multiple times, I suggest taking a day to venture out to a nearby area like Kamakura for a slower-paced, relaxing itinerary.
