KAMAKURA
Your Kamakura Adventure
Slam Dunk photo spot, a beloved gem, and a Japan filming location for 'Is This Love Interpretable?'

Kamakura, my absolute favorite region in Japan,
has seen a sudden surge in popularity after appearing as a filming location in Japan for the Netflix drama Is This Love Interpretable? ;-)
With the scenic Enoden train running along the sea,
and streets brimming with that unique Japanese charm,
it's a place full of unforgettable moments.
Let's take a stroll down memory lane and revisit my Kamakura adventures! 😙
1. Kamakura

Kamakura is a small city near Tokyo,
and you can get there in about an hour by subway.
Many people visit it as a day trip while traveling in Tokyo,
but there's so much to see: the Slam Dunk photo spot,
sea-view cafes and restaurants,
stunning sunsets over the ocean,
and plenty of opportunities to watch the Enoden train pass by.
A day trip might feel a bit rushed to experience it all.
That's why I highly recommend staying for at least one night!

Last year, I took a solo trip to Kamakura for 2 nights and 3 days,
and having that extra time allowed me to truly soak in the everyday charm of the town.
It was wonderful to explore at a relaxed pace.
Unlike bustling Tokyo, Kamakura is a laid-back town,
so it's best to slow down and explore at your own leisure~

For accommodation, I highly recommend Good Morning Guest House.
It offers direct views of the Kamakura sea,
and because it's priced at under ~$69,
it's so popular that it often books up a month or two in advance.
The view from this Kamakura accommodation is so famous, you might want to adjust your travel dates just to stay there!
So, if you check and see a room available, book it immediately...!

I'll also leave a link for the international travel coupon pack.
You can use it not only in Japan but also for any overseas destination,
so if you have travel plans, go ahead and grab it ~
2. Enoden Train Scenery
Kamakura is beautiful everywhere you look,
but the first place many people think of is,
of course, the Slam Dunk photo spot.
With the sea stretching out behind the Enoden train,
it truly feels like a scene straight out of an anime.
However, if you want to take unhurried photos like I did,
it's best to arrive around 7-8 AM.
Because once afternoon hits, you'll be swallowed by the crowds...~
To see it peacefully, aim for around 7-8 AM,
or during the evening, but then you won't see the sea.

But even without the sea, it's still beautiful in a different, charming way.
That's why I truly recommend staying at least one night in Kamakura ㅠㅠ

Alternatively, from Kamakurakokomae Station,
if you walk for just 5 minutes to the right with your back to the railway,
you'll find charming alleyways like these.
It's not even a quarter of the length of the famous Slam Dunk railway crossing,
but with no tourists and stunning ocean views,
it might actually be a better spot for your photos.

Unlike the background location in Slam Dunk, this isn't a main road,
so there's hardly any car traffic here,
making it super easy to capture amazing photos with the Enoden train.
3. Other Scenery

Beyond the scenic Enoden trains and ocean views,
you'll discover charming shops and quaint alleys scattered everywhere,
all exuding that unique Japanese atmosphere, making them delightful to explore.
That's why when you're exploring Kamakura,
instead of just relying on the train for transportation,
it's wonderful to take your time and wander around on foot!

The blue sea peeking through the alleyways.
If only the weather had been better, it would have been even prettier 🥲

With a school nearby, you'll often spot students in uniform,
and once you venture beyond the immediate Slam Dunk spot,
there aren't too many tourists, giving it a strong Japanese countryside vibe!

If sunset approaches during your Kamakura trip,
you absolutely have to head to Shichirigahama Station beach!
It's the perfect spot to sit on the parking lot wall with a beer,
and simply gaze at the sunset over the sea.
On a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji, so keep that in mind ~

I planned a 2-night, 3-day itinerary,
which allowed me to leisurely visit Enoshima Island.
However, for a day trip or even a 1-night trip from Tokyo,
including Enoshima Island might be a bit ambitious, so
I hope you plan your itinerary carefully and enjoy your visit.
Enoshima Island, which I enjoyed even more than Kamakura itself,
I'll post about it next week 😙
4. Kamakura Restaurants

I recommend two fantastic restaurants in Kamakura.
First up is Yoridokoro, a beloved Japanese home-style restaurant.
It became famous for its dining experience with a tram view,
but its delicious set meals also keep it consistently popular.
There's even the fun of whisking raw egg whites into a meringue and topping your dish with it '-'

This is another fantastic restaurant where you can enjoy the Enoden view.
It's a bit hidden and not as widely known,
which means I got to enjoy it leisurely without any waiting.
Personally, I liked this place even more than Yoridokoro!

And this one is an Enoshima restaurant, offering front-row ocean views 😙

When traveling in Kamakura, it was such a healing place
that I regretted how quickly time flew by. This year,
I'm actually thinking of planning a week-long trip to go back!
Now that "Is This Love Interpretable?" has become famous as a filming location in Japan,
I do think more tourists will flock there, but...
For those of you planning a visit, I highly recommend staying for at least one night (or more!),
and why not challenge yourselves to book a "Good Morning" accommodation with an ocean view..!
✅
Before you book your accommodation, make sure to grab a coupon pack first!
You'll get a discount on a certain amount, so keep that in mind.
It applies to all overseas accommodations,
so if you're planning a trip, make sure to get it in advance ~

This is because there are so many attractions, such as the Slam Dunk photo spot, sea-view cafes, sunset viewing, and Enoden train scenery, that a day trip schedule would be too tight. The author mentioned that they were able to leisurely explore even the daily life of the town during a 2-night, 3-day solo trip.
If you want to take pictures peacefully, it's best to arrive around 7-8 AM. It is said that taking relaxed photos is difficult in the afternoon due to large crowds.
There is an alleyway located about a 5-minute walk to the right from Kamakura-Kokomae Station, with your back to the railway tracks. This spot has very little vehicle traffic, making it easy to take photos with the Enoden train, and it also has fewer tourists and a sea view.
We recommend GOOD MORNING ZAIMOKUZA Guesthouse. It offers direct views of the Kamakura sea, and its popularity, with prices under ~$69, means it often sells out one or two months in advance.
