Sometimes, staying only in Tokyo can feel a bit monotonous, especially if you're traveling with kids who might crave a change of scenery. That's exactly why we decided to venture out to Enoshima, a beautiful coastal escape just a short journey from Tokyo.
While Enoshima is definitely doable as a day trip, we knew that wouldn't give us enough time for our child to enjoy swimming or for us to truly soak in all the island has to offer. So, we opted for a relaxing overnight stay, and it was absolutely the right decision!

1. Choosing Accommodation in Enoshima
Initially, we looked into hotels directly on Enoshima Island. However, many options were on the pricier side, and more importantly, they weren't as conveniently located to the Kamakura-Enoshima beach area we wanted to explore.
With beach access and proximity to the train station as our top priorities, we decided to book our stay near Katase Beach.
2. Hotel Shiosai Enoshima: An Honest Review
If an unparalleled ocean view and direct beach access are what you're looking for in your Kamakura-Enoshima accommodation, then Hotel Shiosai is definitely a place I'd recommend.
The hotel is conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from Katase Enoshima Station on the Odakyu Enoshima Line. It's right in front of Goshigoe Beach, the closest beach, and Katase Higashihama Beach is also just a stone's throw away.
We booked our stay for three people during the peak season in July 2026, including dinner, for approximately ~$207 for one night.
The overall atmosphere and the building itself lean towards a slightly older style. To be fair, many accommodations along the Kamakura-Enoshima coastline have a bit of history. However, the beach accessibility here was truly unparalleled.
The beach is literally right outside the hotel, and you can see Enoshima Island directly from the front.
We stayed in an ocean-view tatami room. Compared to typical Japanese business hotels, the room was incredibly spacious.
There was enough space for three beds, with room left over for a beanbag chair between the beds and the TV. The tatami flooring also gave the room a wonderful ryokan-like ambiance.
By the window overlooking the sea, there was a small table, perfect for enjoying a drink or two.
The restroom and bathroom were completely separate, which made them very clean and convenient to use. The room also came with essential amenities, a safe, a wardrobe, and even yukata, all neatly prepared.
Despite its slightly older feel, the spacious room, separated bathroom, and unbeatable beach access made Hotel Shiosai a truly satisfying accommodation choice in Kamakura-Enoshima.
In the lobby lounge, guests can enjoy complimentary drinks.
Since our visit to this Tokyo suburb was during the summer, they even had a convenient ice dispenser available.
A simple breakfast of bread and juice is provided free of charge.
We booked a package that included dinner coupons. These coupons, valued at up to 1,800 JPY per person, could be used for dinner at Kinokuniya, a traditional ryokan nearby.
This allowed us to savor Shirasu-don (whitebait rice bowl), a specialty of the Kamakura-Enoshima coastal area, without having to search for a dinner spot, which was incredibly convenient.
3. Your 2-Day Enoshima & Kamakura Itinerary
We started our adventure from Shinjuku, Tokyo, in the morning, taking the Odakyu Line to Katase Enoshima Station. After dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we headed straight to Enoshima Beach for a refreshing swim.
In the evening, we enjoyed dinner at the hotel's affiliated restaurant.
Afterward, we took a delightful evening stroll around Enoshima. The island at night had such a magical and serene atmosphere.
On our second day, after a simple breakfast at the hotel,
we checked out and explored Kamakura by riding the charming Enoden train before heading back to Tokyo.
If we had opted for a day trip to Enoshima instead of an overnight stay, it would have been absolutely impossible to enjoy a leisurely swim and a romantic evening stroll. An overnight trip truly allows you to maximize your experience.
Even if swimming isn't on your agenda, I highly recommend an overnight trip to the Kamakura-Enoshima area. Beyond the beaches we visited – Goshigoe and Higashihama – you can also enjoy stunning views of Mount Fuji from Nishihama Beach, which is on the opposite side, and experience the unique scenery of black sand beaches.
Enoshima, after the daytime crowds have dispersed, was perfect for an evening walk, and waking up to a relaxed morning in our tatami room truly allowed us to embrace the tranquil seaside charm of this Tokyo getaway.
