At the tail end of winter, I took a trip with my family

to Jusanji Pond in Cheongsong.

Even without the vibrant spring flowers or colorful autumn foliage,

the resilient spirit of the willow trees, silently holding their ground in the water,

really touches your heart during this season.

Beautiful in all four seasons, Jusanji is always the first place

that comes to mind when thinking of must-visit spots in Cheongsong.

Our family trip to Cheongsong at the very end of winter.

Of all the places we planned to visit, the one I was looking forward to the most

was definitely Jusanji Pond.

This mystical reservoir, which is said to have never dried up

since the reign of King Sukjong of the Joseon Dynasty,

truly reveals its raw beauty when visited in the winter.

When people think of Cheongsong's Jusanji Pond,

the first thing that comes to mind is the willow trees growing out of the water.

Even in winter with all their leaves gone,

the grove of around 30 willow trees—some over 150 years old—

created an incredibly striking landscape.

Especially at the tail end of winter, the rough bark and twisting branches

rising above the frozen water look just like a traditional ink wash painting.

While it lacks vibrant colors, the deep emotion evoked by the natural

lines and raw shapes of nature is a special privilege you can only

experience at Cheongsong's Jusanji Pond in the winter.

Starting from the Free Parking Lot

The parking lot is free of charge and quite spacious.

Though there were some other visitors, the winter chill lent

the place a wonderfully peaceful and quiet atmosphere.

The Path to Jusanji Pond

The path leading to Jusanji is smooth and flat,

though it does have a gentle uphill slope.

Soon, the stone monument welcoming you to Juwangsan National Park comes into view...

A Mystery Shaped by 300 Years of History

The Reservoir That Never Runs Dry

As you stroll along the trail with your family, there’s a wonderful story to share with the kids.

It's about the miracle of Jusanji never drying up.

Since its completion in 1720, it is said that the pond has never once dried out, even during the most severe droughts.

The secret lies in its unique geological makeup:

welded tuff.

This volcanic rock layer acts like a sponge, absorbing water and slowly releasing it over time. Isn't it absolutely amazing how nature's brilliant design has kept these ancient willow trees alive for hundreds of years?

Walking along this peaceful path was the perfect way to make precious memories with my family.

The soothing sound of the melting valley stream flowing by was pure therapy.

On the day of my visit, the ice on Jusanji Pond was just beginning to thaw. Every now and then, I could hear the sharp *crack* and *snap* of the ice breaking.

Near the rest area, they displayed photos of Jusanji, including stunning aerial shots.

When the autumn foliage peaks, this spot becomes the absolute hottest destination to visit in Cheongsong.

To protect the delicate natural environment, visitors aren't allowed to enter the reservoir itself. Instead, they've built two wooden observation decks.
