Japan Shopping List 2026: Must-Buy Snacks & Souvenirs
Tired of generic Japan shopping lists? Discover my personal, repeat-purchase recommendations for authentic Japanese snacks and unique souvenirs. No sponsored ads, just pure joy!

When you're planning a trip to Japan, you inevitably find yourself searching for
Japanese shopping lists, or 'must-buy' items from Japan.
But let's be honest, social media is often overflowing with ads,
and how many times have we bought something only to find it's not quite what we expected?
Today, I've compiled a list of items I genuinely bought with my own money (no sponsorships here!), loved,
and consistently repurchase because they're just that good!
※Please note: Purchase prices are accurate as of the time of my purchase,
and may vary by approximately ±200-500 yen.
Morinaga Carre de Chocolat Winter Mont Blanc
Approximately 540 yen for 18 pieces

You can always trust Morinaga for delicious treats!
Whenever Morinaga releases something new, I pretty much grab it without hesitation,
because their products are consistently amazing.
This particular product was actually a new discovery for me during my recent travels.

These square chocolates are similar to Minishell, and appear to be a winter limited edition,
though I actually found them in a supermarket back in May!
They have a delightful Mont Blanc flavor, with a rich chestnut taste complemented by a creamy sweetness.
Even for someone like me, who isn't usually big on sweets, this is one treat I happily devour.
If you're a fan of Mont Blanc or chocolate, you absolutely *have* to try these!
Pocky Mint Chocolate Flavor

My boyfriend, a true member of the 'mint chocolate gang',
spotted these mint chocolate Pocky in Japan and immediately snatched them up!
The mint intensity? I'd say it's a solid medium-strong.
It's not that overpowering, toothpaste-like kick,
but after a bite, a refreshing mint aroma gently lingers in your mouth.
You also get that lovely chocolatey sweetness,
so he says the mint chocolate balance is absolutely spot-on!
(Full disclosure: I'm firmly in the anti-mint-chocolate camp myself...)

Yuraku White Black Thunder (Hokkaido Limited Edition)
Approximately 1,710 yen for 40 pieces

This is my chocolate-fiend boyfriend's absolute top pick.
While there's also the classic Black Thunder,
this particular one is a Hokkaido-exclusive, making it quite a rare find! 🥲
So far, I've only managed to stumble upon it at Sapporo and Hiroshima Airport duty-free shops,
and Narita Airport duty-free – just those three spots!

Crafted with Hokkaido milk,
it boasts a satisfyingly crispy cookie texture enveloped in a rich, sweet white chocolate coating.
If you adore crunchy chocolate, make sure to snap these up!
Freeze-and-Eat Watermelon Ice (Kaldi)
Approximately 150-170 yen per piece / Price may vary with tax exemption

These are treats you simply pop into the freezer and enjoy once frozen.
You'll typically find them at Kaldi as a summer limited edition,
I tried them last year, absolutely loved them, and made sure to stock up again this trip!

It's like enjoying a watermelon ice pop, but with the delightful texture of a sorbet!
They even sell them in boxes of 12, so you'll see many people stocking up on them!
Higashimaru Udon Soup Base / Udon Broth Powder
Approximately 200 yen

This powdered soup base lets you effortlessly create authentic Japanese-style udon broth right in your own kitchen.
Beyond udon, it's incredibly versatile for dishes like egg soup, fish cake soup, nabe,
and even for seasoning pasta to perfection!

The Kansai-style udon broth is light and clear, which is its defining characteristic.
You'll taste more dashi flavor than soy sauce,
The recommendation is 250ml of hot water per pack,
but it can be a bit salty, so it's a good idea to add water gradually!
Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Electric Kettle Cleaner
In the high 300s of yen

This is a cleaning agent you can buy at Japanese drugstores or supermarkets that removes
white limescale, mineral deposits, and water stains from inside electric kettles.

It's a super easy product: just add water, add the cleaner, boil it, let it sit for an hour,
then rinse, and your kettle is clean!
It's a 100% citric acid product, food additive grade, and I use it regularly,
about once a month, for cleaning the inside of my electric kettle.
Muhi Soft GX
Based on 150g: 1600 yen / Class 3 OTC drug

This is Muhi Soft GX, which I bought at a drugstore.
It's a cream applied to itchy, dry skin or when you get insect bites!

My boyfriend gets bitten by mosquitoes a lot, so we used to use Anpanman patches from the same company,
but his hair would get pulled out when he removed them, so we switched to Muhi 😂

I bought the largest 150g size, and it comes in a jar.
There's so much of it that I feel like I need to portion it out and share it.

⚠️ There are smaller sizes available, so don't buy the large one like I did;
make sure to get a small one!

It's unscented and has a light, moisturizing cream-like texture.
When applied after mosquito bites, the itchiness definitely disappears, so it's one of my go-to items these days.
Histomin Kakkonto Liquid

This Kakkonto liquid, recommended and purchased at a drugstore,
is a liquid-type cold medicine that can also be taken for body aches, early-stage colds, or muscle pain.
Each box contains 6 bottles.
When I feel that chilling sensation that signals a cold coming on,
I drink one bottle, and I feel refreshed the next day.

It's a non-sugar type with no drowsy-making ingredients.
The target age is 15 years or older / it's a Class 2 medication, so if you usually take other medicines,
please consult a pharmacist before purchasing!
Daiso Oil Stain Cleaner
110 yen

Honestly, I don't usually buy much at Daiso, but this is one product I always make sure to stock up on before I run out.
When I grill meat or cook at home,
the area around the gas stove or induction cooktop easily gets dirty.
This cleaner works really well on old grease around gas stoves, IH cooktops, microwaves, and even range hoods, so I'm very satisfied.

The blue package also cleans surprisingly well, so
After cooking, oil stains or marks
wiped away cleanly with just a light touch, no scrubbing needed.
Kao Attack ZERO Perfect Stick for Indoor Drying
1300 yen

It's a stick-type laundry detergent you can find at Don Quijote or supermarkets.
It's designed for single-use, like a capsule,
so you just toss in one stick without needing to measure.
Since it's powder, it barely takes up any luggage weight, which is fantastic.

That musty smell that appears when you dry laundry indoors,
sweat odors, and everyday smells – this product is specially designed to tackle them,
so I especially recommend it to anyone bothered by laundry smells in the summer.
I've used it all up too, so I'm heading to Japan next week to repurchase it, trotting along... 😄
From snacks to daily necessities and detergents,
I've gathered only the truly fantastic items that I've personally tried and consistently repurchased.
I hope this has been a little bit of help
for those of you planning a trip to Japan :)
