Italy Honeymoon Flights: Rome, Sicily, Istanbul Itinerary

The last Saturday of May, 2026, we tied the knot, right when both wedding season and Italian travel hit their peak. It was perfect timing for our dream honeymoon!

We started planning our wedding in January 2025, which gave us a head start on our honeymoon too. Luckily, we managed to book our flights in November 2025, before fuel surcharges climbed even higher. With our wedding on a Saturday and our flight to Rome departing that very Monday, we prioritized a direct Korean Air flight for our honeymoon.

Our grand honeymoon itinerary looked like this:

✈️ Seoul/Incheon (ICN) → Rome (FCO)

🚢 Rome → Sicily

✈️ Sicily → Istanbul (IST)

✈️ Istanbul (IST) → Seoul/Incheon (ICN)

Initially, we considered booking our entire multi-city itinerary with Korean Air, hoping for a single, seamless reservation.

When we checked Korean Air's official website for multi-city flights, the total for two economy tickets was ~$2,840. We then looked up the same itinerary on Myrealtrip, and with an affiliated credit card discount, it came out slightly cheaper at ~$2,806.

However, it seemed Myrealtrip's ticketing service was quite new at the time, as their customer service response was a bit slow, and waiting for email replies felt more cumbersome than expected.

Discovering a Direct Route from Sicily to Istanbul

After consulting a friend who works in travel, I learned that while the Seoul/Incheon-Rome and Istanbul-Seoul/Incheon segments were reasonably priced, the Rome-Istanbul leg was quite expensive.

Hearing that, I re-evaluated our itinerary and realized there was no need to backtrack from Sicily to Rome just to fly to Istanbul! So, I began searching for direct flights from Sicily to Istanbul.

Trip.com offered the best price for this segment, so we booked it there!

Sicily has several airports, and Turkish Airlines operated direct routes from both Palermo and Catania airports.

While low-cost carriers were an option, for a long-haul honeymoon, we prioritized reliability and only compared Turkish Airlines.

Our Final Booking Breakdown

Ultimately, this is how we booked our flights:

✈️ Korean Air: Seoul/Incheon (ICN) → Rome (FCO) / Istanbul (IST) → Seoul/Incheon (ICN)

✈️ Turkish Airlines: Sicily → Istanbul (IST)

We booked our round-trip Korean Air flights for two people for ~$2,330.

We then separately added the Turkish Airlines segment from Sicily to Istanbul, also booked directly on Turkish Airlines' official website. I recall this saved us about ~$438 for two people.

Ultimately, this approach made our travel flow smoother and saved us a bit of money compared to our initial plan of booking the entire multi-city trip with Korean Air.

Applying for the Korean Air 060 Credit Card

Before finalizing our flight payments, we also took the opportunity to apply for the Korean Air 060 credit card. As newlyweds, we were naturally looking into card benefits, and this seemed like a satisfying choice, allowing us to earn mileage points by making a one-time payment directly on Korean Air's official website.

Wedding planning was certainly a journey, but booking our honeymoon flights required more thought and consideration than I anticipated.

Especially for a multi-city European honeymoon, a single multi-city ticket isn't always the best solution! Comparing prices for individual segments and booking some parts separately is definitely worth considering.
