How much has our family of four spent so far?

On July 30th, 2026, we embarked on our adventure from Incheon Airport. We arrived in Dublin the very next day, July 31st, 2026, which means today marks our 11th day exploring the Emerald Isle!

(Full disclosure, I wrote the first draft of this post a few days ago, so we're even further along now.)

This trip involves nearly a month-long journey by campervan, allowing us to discover every nook and cranny of Ireland.

I'm already tanned — I'm already sporting a nice tan!

From the very beginning of our journey, I made a point to meticulously record every expense.

Of course, when you're traveling, it's easy to miss a few things, and with some sponsored experiences, it's not always possible to track everything perfectly.

Nevertheless, I've compiled a summary of our confirmed spending up to this point.

(For simplicity in calculations, the original content used a fixed exchange rate of 1 Euro = 1,650 KRW. All KRW figures below have been converted to USD using 1 USD ≈ 1,449 KRW, rounded to the nearest dollar.)

We purchased round-trip airfare to Ireland for about ~$518 per person.

✈️ Flights and the Campervan: Our Biggest Splurges

The round-trip airfare for our family of four came out to approximately ~$2,092.

And, as expected, the largest expense for this trip is undoubtedly the campervan.

The rental cost for our campervan, which we'll be using for 18 nights and 19 days, was 4,365 Euros, equivalent to about ~$4,969.

Initially, I thought that renting a campervan would significantly reduce our accommodation costs, leading to considerable savings on the overall trip budget.

However, after experiencing it firsthand, the rental cost of the campervan itself is quite substantial.

On the flip side, the immense advantage is the freedom to stay wherever we wish and the convenience of not having to search for a new place to sleep every single night.

🚗 Before the Campervan, We Needed a Rental Car Too

Before renting the campervan, we traveled for 6 days with a rental car. — We explored with a rental car for 6 days before picking up our campervan.

Before we picked up our campervan, we utilized a rental car for 6 days.

The rental car cost was 535.91 Euros, approximately ~$607.

On top of that, we added 86.33 Euros for fuel, about ~$97.

Combining the rental car and fuel, our 6-night, 7-day expenses amounted to roughly ~$711.

🏠 Accommodation Costs: Less Than Expected!

We utilized a variety of accommodations, including campgrounds, hostels, and Airbnb.

In the initial phase of our Ireland trip, we stayed at Airbnb twice and a hostel once, followed by three nights at campgrounds.

After picking up the campervan, we've used campgrounds four times and opted for overnight parking once.

Honestly, we did a great job finding affordable spots!

From July 31st to August 10th, 2026, the total accommodation cost for our family of four was approximately ~$963.

🍴 Food, Shopping, and Sightseeing Expenses

Groceries, dining out, coffee, parking fees, tolls, tourist attraction entrance fees, and round-trip ferry tickets to the Aran Islands — all these miscellaneous local expenses totaled approximately ~$704.

Notably, we've mostly managed our meals by cooking with ingredients bought from supermarkets and some food items we brought from home.

The biggest single expense here was the round-trip ferry to the Aran Islands, which cost 158.1 Euros, or about ~$171.

We traveled from Doolin, staying one night on Inishmore and another on Inisheer.

While the campervan cost has already been paid, it includes expenses for the entire rental period, some of which are for future use. In contrast, the accommodation and local daily expenses represent the actual amounts spent up to this point.

Our Ireland adventure is far from over!

The final travel expenses will continue to change depending on how many more miles we cover in the campervan, how much more we eat, and how many more campgrounds we utilize.
