and sharing my personal experience from a two-night stay
at the Hyatt Regency Mexico City.
I will also share a few other highly recommended hotel options in the area!

1. Where to Stay in Mexico City: Safe Neighborhood Guide
When planning a trip to Mexico City, safety is naturally one of the top priorities for most travelers.
For first-time visitors and tourists, the three safest and most popular neighborhoods to set up base are Polanco, Roma Norte, and Zona Rosa.
Using the iconic Angel of Independence as a central landmark, Polanco lies to the northwest, Zona Rosa sits just below it, and Roma Norte is located further south.
The magnificent Palace of Fine Arts (Palacio de Bellas Artes)
To the east lies the Historic Center (Centro Histórico), where you will find major landmarks like the Zócalo and Templo Mayor.
Here is a breakdown of the key characteristics, pros, and cons of each neighborhood (ordered from safest to most bustling):

Since peace of mind was my absolute priority, I decided to book my stay in Polanco, the safest and most upscale district in the city.
While it is a bit further from the Historic Center (Zócalo and Templo Mayor), ride-sharing apps like Uber are incredibly affordable in Mexico City, making the commute seamless and stress-free.
Polanco is filled with upscale restaurants and has a distinct, beautiful European charm.
Mexico City is massive—much larger than most people realize—and you simply cannot explore it entirely on foot.
Since you will likely rely on Ubers anyway, I highly recommend prioritizing safety and hotel quality over proximity to the historic sights when choosing your base.
2. Hyatt Regency Mexico City Review (Polanco)

After careful consideration, I chose the Hyatt Regency, and it did not disappoint.

Since I forgot to take a photo of the full room during daylight, here is a official look at the setup.
I stayed in a standard room, which was incredibly spacious with more than enough room to fully open multiple large suitcases—a huge plus for long-haul travelers!
While there was no traditional standalone wardrobe, the room featured a highly functional open closet space with a safe, right next to a well-stocked capsule coffee machine and minibar setup.
The bathroom was also very generous in size, though it featured a single vanity sink.
The walk-in shower was massive and came stocked with premium amenities. They also provided plenty of bottled water on the counter, which is essential for brushing your teeth safely in Mexico City.
The room also included a large, comfortable sofa, a proper work desk, and a dedicated luggage rack.
There was a large wall-mounted TV as well, though I barely had time to turn it on! The layout felt thoughtful, comfortable, and highly functional.
The hotel lobby is absolutely massive and incredibly grand.
One major safety perk is the secure, recessed driveway. When you order an Uber, the car pulls directly into the hotel property rather than stopping on the busy main street, adding an extra layer of comfort and security.
The sprawling Bosque de Chapultepec, located right next to Polanco.
During my stay, I walked to nearby high-end restaurants late at night and never once felt unsafe.
Many of Mexico City’s most famous fine-dining establishments (like Pujol and Quintonil) are located right here in Polanco, so if you plan on dining there, staying in this neighborhood is highly recommended.

It is a modern, stylish residence built within the last two years, offering incredibly spacious rooms for the price. Located right near the Angel of Independence, it makes exploring the city incredibly convenient.

While Polanco is known for expensive luxury hotel chains, you can still find incredible boutique options that offer great value.

When choosing my hotel in Polanco, my final decision came down to the Hyatt Regency and the Intercontinental Presidente.
These two properties are located right next door to each other, meaning they offer the exact same top-tier location, premium security, and similar price points. It is definitely worth comparing rates for both before booking!

The safest areas for tourists to stay in Mexico City are Polanco, Roma Norte, and Zona Rosa. Among them, Polanco is the safest, as it is home to embassies and luxury hotels. Roma Norte has many cafes and restaurants, while Zona Rosa offers excellent access to public transportation.
Based on the standard room type, the space is large enough to comfortably open a suitcase. It includes a closet area, a safe, a capsule coffee machine, and a refrigerator. The bathroom features a single sink and a spacious shower booth stocked with amenities, along with plenty of bottled water for brushing your teeth.
A great value-for-money accommodation in the Polanco area is District Polanco by Lumina. It is a boutique hotel with carefully designed room interiors, and you can stay there for about a half to a third of the price of nearby global chain hotels.
The accommodation recently featured on a variety show is Caliza Roma Residences by Tasman. It is a new property built less than two years ago, offering spacious rooms for the price, and its location right near the Angel of Independence makes it very convenient for getting around.
