1. What is Huoju 8th Street?

📍 Gaode Map Location
If you're planning a trip to Weihai, you've likely seen gorgeous photos of Huoju 8th Street (sometimes translated as Torch 8th Street or Huaju 8th Street).
Once a quiet, ordinary neighborhood road, it skyrocketed into a viral sensation during the spring holidays back in 2024. The magic lies in its perfect geography: a steep, colorful hill that slopes downward, framing the deep blue sea right at the bottom of the street.
Since going viral, the local community has designated specific photo zones to keep things organized, making it incredibly easy to capture that iconic coastal shot.
2. Getting There & Accessibility
I stayed at a hotel nearby, so it was an easy 10-minute walk to the street.

For most travelers, taking a DiDi (the local ride-share service) is the most convenient option.
Keep in mind that cars aren't allowed to enter the main photo zone directly. Your driver will drop you off nearby, and you'll need to walk up a gentle hill for about 5 minutes.
Alternatively, you can set your destination to the International Bathing Beach and walk up the slope from the seaside.

I arrived around 2:00 PM, and the street was bustling with energy.
Being an Instagram-famous hotspot, the crowd was a lively mix of young couples, families on weekend getaways, tour groups, and professional street photographers directing their clients.
3. Street Vibe & 3 Must-Visit Photo Spots

You only need about 30 minutes to explore the entire street. If you're just walking through without taking photos, it takes less than 5 minutes from end to end.

If you're traveling solo or want high-quality shots, you can hire one of the many local freelance photographers lining the street.
They charge around ~$2 (15 CNY) per selected photo. The best part? They will actually wait in line at the busy photo spots for you, making the process completely stress-free.
(To my surprise, quite a few of them spoke excellent conversational English and Korean!)

There are also several cute cafes and shops selling refreshing drinks and quick snacks, so you don't need to worry about packing provisions.
The Top 3 Photo Spots You Can't Miss!
There are exactly three main spots where everyone lines up. Hit these three, and you've conquered Huoju 8th Street!

The First Spot is right in the middle of the main road, looking straight down towards the ocean.
Because this is a functioning road with pedestrian traffic, timing your shot to get a clean background is the ultimate challenge.

Thankfully, there's a polite culture of taking turns here. People are generally very patient and will wait for you to get your shot.
If you hire a local photographer, they have a hilarious but effective way of calling out to clear the crowd for a split second to get you that perfect, empty-street look! 🤣

The Second Spot is next to the famous signpost that reads:
"Just across this sea lies Korea."
It really highlights just how close Weihai is to the Korean peninsula!

The classic pose here is looking out towards the horizon. Since there was a queue behind me, I quickly snapped a photo and moved along to let others have their turn.

The Third Spot is the official "Torch 8th Street" sign. This is by far the longest queue on the street, as even the professional photographers line up here with their clients.

While other travelers were rocking cool sunglasses and professional modeling poses, I stuck to the classic peace sign. Simple but classic! 😅
4. Combining with Weihai International Bathing Beach

Once you reach the bottom of Huoju 8th Street, the beautiful International Bathing Beach is just a 5 to 10-minute walk away. They make the perfect half-day combination itinerary.

I wrapped up my photo session around 3:30 PM and walked over to the beach. Even though the afternoon sun was quite strong, the refreshing ocean breeze made the walk incredibly pleasant.
5. Who is this experience for?
Huoju 8th Street is a absolute must-visit if you love capturing aesthetic travel memories. If you're traveling solo or struggle with selfies, hiring one of the affordable local photographers is an amazing way to get professional-grade travel photos without breaking the bank.
Since the afternoon gets incredibly crowded, I highly recommend visiting in the early morning if you want a serene, empty-street experience. Because the street itself is quite short, plan to spend about 30 minutes here before heading down to the beach to relax for the rest of the day.
