Since I only had one night to spend in Madrid,
location was my absolute top priority. After searching carefully,
the place I chose was Hotel Mediodia.
Amidst Madrid's pricey accommodations,
finding a 2-star gem close to Atocha Station and the Prado Museum
for around $70 a night was an absolute steal!

Hotel Mediodia, my home for the night in Madrid,
comes with some incredible advantages.

2. Just a 7-minute walk from Atocha Station
3. Great surrounding commercial area
Restaurants, KFC, Mercadona supermarket, etc., within a 10-minute walk
4. About a 10-minute walk to the Prado Museum
5. Take the free 001 bus to Puerta del Sol
6. 24-hour check-in available
For someone like me staying only one night in Madrid,
there couldn't be a more perfect spot.
I booked it right away!
When I booked, Agoda had the cheapest rate,
but right now, HotelsCombined seems to have the best deal!

After getting off the airport bus at Atocha Station,
I looked around, and without even needing to open Google Maps,
HOTEL MEDIODIA was right there in front of my eyes!
It was literally just across the street,
so I excitedly wheeled my suitcase straight into the hotel lobby.
To check in, you just need to walk up about half a flight of stairs from the entrance.
I was struggling with my heavy suitcase, but
a nearby staff member kindly came over to help me.
Since I arrived around 10:30 PM,
there was absolutely no wait, and check-in was a breeze!
Having stayed at places without elevators before,
I was secretly worried, but
luckily, there were two elevators here!
They were different sizes;
it seemed like one was built a bit larger,
perhaps to accommodate the housekeeping staff and their carts.
And right next to the elevators,
there was this dizzying staircase...
Before this trip, I took elevators for granted.
But dragging a heavy suitcase around really made me realize
just how incredibly precious they are!
When picking accommodation, an elevator is an absolute must-have!
My room was Room 406!
The hotel Wi-Fi password
was handwritten for me like this.
Since it's a budget-friendly 2-star hotel,
the room entrance looked a bit more dated than I expected.
The entrance was right next to the neighboring room,
so I was a bit worried about noise traveling through,
but thankfully, it was incredibly quiet!
Room Condition
The room itself was absolutely spotless!
When traveling in Europe, you can never be too careful about bedbugs, right?
So, when checking out the room,
my number one priority was checking how clean the bed was.
Fortunately, the mattress was super clean and fresh! :)
There were mini nightstands on both sides of the bed,
perfect for scrolling on my phone before falling asleep!
Plus, having an outlet on each side of the bed
made it so easy to charge my phone or plug in my electric blanket.
Of course, two outlets on each side would have been even better,
but hey, I was glad to have at least one!
Usually, twin rooms have the beds spaced apart,
but Hotel Mediodia had them pushed right next to each other!
With the two single beds combined,
it made the sleeping area feel so much more spacious and visually appealing.
You get your own sleeping space, but it also feels huge?
That's a total win-win situation!
I captured the overall room condition in a quick video.
It’s a place that definitely nails the most important factor: cleanliness.
Keep in mind that I booked the cheapest room category,
so I wasn't expecting much of a view anyway!
Just something to keep in mind!
The outlets were 220V, so I could plug my devices straight in
without needing a travel adapter.
Thanks to that, I kept my phone and power banks fully charged
and ready for all my adventures!
There was a safe inside the closet,
but if you've traveled around Europe, you already know the deal... haha.
Those safes are best left untouched..!
Let's always stay vigilant against theft!
There were two hangers, which was enough to hang up our coats.
However, the closet wasn't that big,
so it felt pretty full with just those two coats! :)
How to Use a Radiator in Spain
The thing that puzzled me most while looking around the room
was the presence of this radiator.
Since I had never used one before,
just seeing it there felt super unfamiliar and foreign.
I debated just leaving it alone,
but it got so chilly that I decided to try turning it on.
To operate it, you press Power, switch it from OFF to ON,
and press the up arrow to set your desired temperature!
That's how I got it working,
but please keep in mind that asking the front desk is always the safest bet
to be absolutely sure! :)
Room Service
They actually had a wide variety of room service options on the menu,
but sadly, it was so late that I couldn't try it,
so I ended up grabbing some takeout from the KFC near the hotel instead!
(Fun fact: The staff at that nearby KFC were incredibly friendly!!!)
Hotel Mediodia Bathroom
The bathroom is located right by the entrance.
I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and clean the bathroom was,
but perhaps because it's a budget-friendly hotel, there weren't many amenities,
which was another surprise!
Aside from body wash, a hair dryer, and towels,
there isn't much else provided, so I highly recommend bringing your own toiletries!
(As a side note, the hair dryer's airflow was on the weaker side.)
Sometimes, when one person showers and the next person goes in right after,
you might run out of hot water,
but here, the hot water was super consistent and came out in a strong stream, which I loved!
However, the bathroom did feel a bit chilly overall,
so if you're visiting in the winter, you might find it a little cold.
Highly Recommended Budget Hotel near Madrid Atocha Station: Hotel Mediodia

Honestly speaking, if you are visiting in the winter,
I'd say it's just an average place to stay.
The biggest reason was that the only heating system in the room
was a radiator, which I wasn't very familiar with,
and it didn't get as warm as I had hoped.
But if you are visiting during any other season,
this is a highly, highly recommended place to stay!!
If you want to visit the Prado Museum right when it opens
or catch a train from Atocha Station to travel to other regions,
do not miss out on this hotel!
It is a 7-minute walk from Atocha Station. If you take the Airport Express Bus 203 and get off, you can easily find it right across the street.
It is a 2-star accommodation with prices starting in the low ~$64 range per night. The author of the article booked a double/twin room for ~$71.
Body wash, towels, and a hair dryer are provided as standard. No other amenities are supplied, so it is recommended to bring your own personal toiletries.
The Prado Museum is about a 10-minute walk away, making it great for getting there right when it opens. For Puerta del Sol, you can take bus 001 to get there for free.
A radiator is installed as the only heating device in the room. The heating is not as warm as expected, and the bathroom tends to be chilly, so it might be a bit cold if you visit during the winter.
