When you think of Hong Kong's iconic skyline, the Peak Tram is undoubtedly the most famous way to see it.
To truly say you've experienced Hong Kong in 2026, you need to see the dazzling city lights from both the water and high above from an observation deck.
That's exactly why I booked both experiences during my trip!
Here's my guide to taking the Peak Tram up to the Sky Terrace 428
to soak in the ultimate Hong Kong night view.

I'll share my honest review of riding the Peak Tram during prime time,
exactly why a Fast Track pass is an absolute must-have,
and how to score the best deals online.
Booking Your Peak Tram Tickets

Let's be completely honest:
Because Victoria Peak is Hong Kong's top nighttime attraction, the crowds are massive.
Especially during these times:
✔ Sunset through 9:00 PM
✔ Weekend evenings
During these windows, the standard wait time easily exceeds an hour—a total waste of your precious vacation time!

I highly advise against buying tickets on-site.
It's more expensive, the lines are notoriously long, and you'll likely miss getting a good seat.
Thanks to my Fast Track pass, I breezed past the entrance,
waited exactly 5 minutes, and hopped right onto the tram.
My Peak Tram Experience

I visited around 9:00 PM on a weekday. Since Hong Kong is seeing a massive travel boom this year, the place was packed.
However, 9:00 PM is when the city lights are arguably at their most vibrant,
so I was incredibly relieved I had purchased the Fast Track pass beforehand.

With the Fast Track,
you simply scan your QR code and walk straight to the boarding area!
If you buy tickets at the counter, you're looking at a 1-hour wait just to purchase them,
and without Fast Track, getting inside takes another 30+ minutes...
By the time you finally reach the Sky Terrace, you'd barely have any energy left to enjoy it.
The Fast Track is an absolute game-changer!

Here's a pro tip: When boarding the tram heading up,
make sure to grab a seat on the right side!
As the tram steeply ascends, the Hong Kong skyline reveals itself through the right-side windows,
and it is absolutely breathtaking.
If there are no right-side seats left, I genuinely recommend waiting 10–15 minutes
for the next tram.

Once you step off the tram, you can head up to the Sky Terrace.
There is a free viewpoint at Lugard Road, but honestly, the visibility isn't great. The view gets partially blocked by trees.
The Sky Terrace, on the other hand,
offers a wide, unobstructed panoramic angle where the skyscrapers are right in front of you.
It's the perfect spot for stunning photos!
When booking your admission, buying the tram and terrace combo ticket online
will save you a few dollars compared to separate purchases!

I honestly never realized
Hong Kong was such a mesmerizing city.
Looking down from the Sky Terrace is
pure magic.

Even though it was my husband's second visit, he was blown away,
saying, "I could come here a hundred times and never get tired of it."
The night view from the Sky Terrace is
easily ten times more beautiful in real life than in photos.
It's truly unmatched!

After soaking in the views, we grabbed some snacks inside the building
and intentionally caught a later tram back down.
Why? Because the line to go down gets incredibly congested!
Most people only anticipate the wait going up,
but the descent can be just as chaotic.
We deliberately lingered a bit longer to avoid the rush.
Oh, and when heading down, try to secure a window seat on the left side!

The dazzling skyline is the absolute highlight of any Hong Kong trip.
Don't let exhausting ticket lines ruin your mood or cause you to rush through this incredible experience.
