If you are visiting Hong Kong for the very first time,

the absolute #1 must-visit spot is Victoria Peak via the Peak Tram.

It is an iconic, historic attraction,

and the steep ascent up the mountain is an adventure in itself.

Once you reach the top of Victoria Peak,

you will get a panoramic view of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and Victoria Harbour.

Photos simply do not do this breathtaking sight justice!

However, the main drawback is the massive crowd.

On weekends and during peak sunset hours, the wait times can be brutal.

On one of my early trips, I purchased a standard ticket,

only to find a sea of people and a 2-hour wait warning.

I ended up giving up and wasting my ticket altogether.

Since everyone wants to catch the transition from sunset to night,

unless you plan to go very early in the morning or late at night,

The Symphony of Lights is a spectacular multi-media light show

held daily at 8:00 PM across Victoria Harbour.

It is completely free, making it the most budget-friendly option.

However, the main viewing deck at the Avenue of Stars gets incredibly packed.

It is hard to snap a clean photo, and you have to claim a spot early.

My secret recommendation is to watch near the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower

or right in front of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Moving just a few yards away from the main crowd

gives you a much more relaxed experience.

If you do not mind waiting, catching the Star Ferry during the show is amazing.

But because the ferry is incredibly cheap (around ~$1),

everyone has the same idea, and the boarding lines get chaotic.

Seeing the skyline from the water is a completely different experience.

If you want to skip the ferry chaos, the Aqua Luna is a fantastic upgrade.

At around ~$32, it is pricier than the public ferry,

but as a dedicated red-sailed boutique cruise,

the service, comfort, and views are unmatched.
