How to Book Discounted Hong Kong Disneyland Tickets

💡 First things first, let's look at how to get
discounted Hong Kong Disneyland tickets.
Hong Kong Disneyland tickets are divided into four tiers
depending on the date of your visit.
Tier 1, classified as off-peak tickets, is the cheapest,
while Tier 4, for peak season, is the most expensive.
Generally, Tier 1 applies to quieter weekdays like
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays,
with ticket prices starting around ~$70.
On the other hand, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and some holidays
fall under Tier 2 or Tier 3.
During major Hong Kong or Chinese holiday seasons,
they are classified as Tier 4, the priciest tier.
In this case, ticket prices can go up to around ~$109.

Entering Hong Kong Disneyland in the Afternoon?

Now, let's talk about what it's like
entering Hong Kong Disneyland in the afternoon.
We had lunch in the city and arrived
at Disneyland around 2:00 PM.
To give you some context, this was during the Chinese Labor Day holiday in May,
which meant it was peak season (Tier 4).

Despite that, visiting in the afternoon meant the entrance wasn't crowded at all.
We breezed through a quick security check and got inside in just 5 minutes.
By the way, Hong Kong Disneyland officially allows
visitors to bring in outside snacks and light food.

The food inside the park can be quite pricey and underwhelming,
so we highly recommend packing some bread or rice balls!

It was drizzling lightly when we entered around 2:00 PM,
which actually worked in our favor as the park wasn't too crowded.
At that time, the wait for World of Frozen,
the most popular attraction, was only about 30 minutes.
Other rides only had 10 to 20-minute wait times.
Even for a peak-season afternoon, it felt incredibly manageable!
A Sudden Downpour: My Honest Review of a Rainy Day

So, we had just made our way inside Disneyland
and were browsing one of the souvenir shops
when suddenly, around 3 PM, the heavens opened up.
It was pouring so hard that even with an umbrella, you'd get absolutely soaked.
Naturally, all outdoor attractions ground to a temporary halt,
leaving only a few indoor rides, like Frozen, running.

To make matters worse, we weren't the only ones caught off guard—
plenty of other visitors were left scrambling without umbrellas.
Luckily, the gift shops had ponchos and umbrellas in stock.
But when we went to buy some, we gasped at the prices:
The rain ponchos were about ~$10, and the umbrellas were a whopping ~$19.
It felt a bit painful to spend that much, but we bit the bullet, bought the ponchos,
and waited for the rain to ease up a bit.

Thankfully, the heavy downpour eventually slowed to a drizzle.
However, getting the outdoor rides back up and running
took a lot longer than we anticipated.
With only a handful of rides open,
everyone rushed to the indoor attractions. Because of this,
the wait time for the Frozen ride skyrocketed to almost an hour.

But after about an hour or two,
the outdoor rides gradually began operating again,
and the overall wait times finally started to drop.
By the time evening rolled around after 7 PM,
almost every single attraction had a wait time under 10 minutes—
which basically meant we could walk right on!
Pros and Cons of Visiting on a Rainy Day
'

To wrap things up, here is a quick breakdown of the pros and cons
of visiting Disneyland on a rainy day.
First, the biggest plus: because of the rain,
the crowds were incredibly thin, even though it was peak season.
Around 2 PM when we first entered,
the skies started to drizzle,
and we actually saw a ton of people heading for the exits.
Since we could hop onto most rides with virtually no wait time,
we were able to experience all of Disneyland in just half a day!

On the flip side, there were definitely some downsides.
First, heavy rain shuts down all outdoor rides,
and getting them up and running again takes quite a while.
Because of this, crowds bottleneck at the indoor attractions,
which can cause wait times to spike unexpectedly.
Plus, walking around in the rain all day meant
our shoes got completely soaked (not the comfiest feeling!),
and the highly anticipated parades were all canceled,
which was a huge bummer.
If you're planning a trip and see rain in the forecast,
keep these tips in mind to help you decide! Happy exploring!
