The very first thing you need to do when you land at Hong Kong Airport
is figuring out how to get into the heart of the city.
While there are plenty of options like taxis, the Airport Express, buses, and private transfers,
the one I highly recommend is taking the bus.

Not only is it incredibly budget-friendly, but you also get to experience
that iconic Hong Kong double-decker bus vibe right off the bat.
It immediately makes you feel like your adventure has truly begun!
Today, I'm going to share all the essential info and my personal experience
taking the A11 bus from the airport straight to downtown Sheung Wan!
Essential Prep: What You Need Before Boarding

First things first: to ride the bus,
you will need a contactless payment card.
However, even if your card has contactless capabilities,
certain international cards might not be accepted at the reader.
I actually brought my multi-currency travel card,
but it wouldn't tap, which threw me into a bit of a panic.
So, to play it safe and stress-free,
I highly recommend using a pre-loaded Octopus Card.
You can book your Octopus Card in advance through the link below.
>> Reserve Your Pre-Loaded Octopus Card Here <<
If you reserve a card pre-loaded with HKD 50,
you can pick it up right after landing in Hong Kong
and hop straight onto the bus. It’s incredibly convenient!
How to Get to the A11 Bus Stop
Next up, let me walk you through how to find
the A11 bus stop once you arrive at the airport.

After clearing immigration, you will exit into the Arrivals Hall via Exit A or Exit B.
Since the Octopus Card pickup counter is located near Exit A,
I recommend heading out through Exit A
if you've pre-booked your card.
Once you are in the central area of the Arrivals Hall,
you will spot signs pointing "To City."
Just follow the bus icons and keep walking.

Follow the long ramp straight down,
and you will arrive at the outdoor bus terminal information board.
From here, you can check your boarding bay and schedule
before getting on the bus.
A11 Bus Timetable & Route

The A11 bus, which takes you to Sheung Wan,
starts at the airport, runs through the Sheung Wan area,
and goes all the way to North Point Pier.

The route consists of 22 stops in total,
and it runs virtually all day long,
from 5:35 AM to 12:30 AM.
Buses run frequently, with departures every 15 to 20 minutes during the day,
so you can easily hop on one whenever you're ready.
(By the way, if you're traveling late at night or early in the morning, the N11 bus runs during the night.)
To get to Sheung Wan from the airport, you'll want to get off at the fourth stop,
which is the Macau Ferry Terminal.
The fare is HKD 41.9, so keep that in mind!
Catching the Bus & Heading Downtown: My Experience

I arrived at the Hong Kong Airport bus terminal around
11:06 AM,
and the electronic display board was showing the upcoming departure times.
The next available bus was scheduled for 11:15 AM,
and the boarding platform was super close, just to the back-right of the screen.

There were already about 20 people
waiting in line at the A11 boarding area,
so I quickly queued up behind them.

At first, I wondered if I'd make it on the first bus,
but seeing that it was a massive double-decker bus,
I knew there would be plenty of room for everyone, no matter how long the line got!

The bus arrived right on time, and as I boarded,
I simply tapped my Octopus Card on the orange reader
when boarding the bus.
(No need to tap off when you get off!)

The first floor of the bus features a spacious two-tier luggage rack,
so seating is limited to about 20 seats down there.

But when I headed up to the second floor, rows of seats stretched
all the way from the very front to the back,
making the bus feel incredibly spacious with room for over 60 passengers in total.

Plus, sitting on the second floor is the absolute best way
to enjoy the scenic views of Hong Kong!
During the entire ride into the city, I loved soaking in
that iconic, bustling concrete jungle vibe that Hong Kong is famous for!

After about a 40-minute scenic ride,
I hopped off at the Macau Ferry stop, right near Sheung Wan.
From here, it's just a quick 1-minute walk to Sheung Wan Station—
making it an incredibly fast and hassle-free way to get downtown!
