Phu Quoc Hon Thom Island Cable Car
Words & Photos by Global Explorer
Hello, fellow travelers!
I recently took an amazing family vacation to Phu Quoc, Vietnam.
My mother absolutely loves cable cars, so whenever we travel, finding a scenic cable car ride is always at the top of our itinerary.
On our recent trip, we headed straight for the famous Hon Thom Island Cable Car.
Known as the world's longest oversea cable car (stretching nearly 5 miles!), it definitely lived up to the hype.
For our trip, we decided to skip the water park and just enjoy the round-trip cable car ride itself.
Skip the Line: Book Your Tickets in Advance
We made sure to book our tickets online before heading out.
It was a lifesaver! Instead of wasting precious vacation time waiting in long lines at the ticket booth, we simply scanned our digital barcode and walked right in.
When traveling with family, minimizing wait times is key to keeping everyone happy, so booking in advance was definitely the right call.

A Spectacular, Long-Distance Ride
The moment we boarded, my first thought was, 'Wow, this is incredibly long!'
The Hon Thom Island Cable Car ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes one way.
This means you get a solid 30 to 40 minutes of breathtaking aerial views for the round trip.
It felt less like a simple transit ride and more like a premier sightseeing excursion in its own right.

Our Honest Review of the Ride
Gliding directly over the ocean, the view of the shimmering emerald-green waters below was absolutely stunning.
Pictures honestly don't do it justice—it is so much more breathtaking in person!
The cabins are spacious, and they travel at a surprisingly brisk speed. The natural breeze flowing through the windows kept the cabin wonderfully cool and refreshing.

Is It Worth It Without the Water Park?
This was my biggest question before booking.
To give you the short answer: yes, absolutely!
We arrived at Hon Thom Island, took a quick stroll around, and hopped right back on the cable car to return.
Honestly, if you aren't planning to visit the Aquatopia Water Park, there isn't a whole lot of sightseeing to do on the island itself.
However, the cable car journey alone is spectacular enough to justify the trip.

Quick Tips Before You Go
1. Book in advance: You can skip the ticket counter lines entirely by simply scanning your digital barcode.
2. Check the weather: Visiting on a clear, sunny day makes the emerald sea look infinitely more beautiful.
3. Soak in the moment: While taking photos is great, make sure to put the camera down for a bit and enjoy the panoramic views with your own eyes.
4. Don't skip it: Even if you have no interest in the water park, the cable car ride itself is a must-do Phu Quoc experience.

Final Thoughts
Even though our family skipped the water park, the breathtaking ocean views and the sheer scale of the cable car made this a highlight of our Phu Quoc vacation.
Seeing how much my mother loved it made the experience even more special.
If you are planning a trip to Phu Quoc in 2026, the Hon Thom Island Cable Car is an absolute must-add to your itinerary!
