If you're visiting Ho Chi Minh City, one experience you absolutely shouldn't miss is the city bus tour, especially at night. On my first visit, I ran out of time and couldn't do it. This second trip, I finally got to experience it, and the timing was perfect – watching the city transition from dusk to glittering night was truly spectacular. For just ~$4, skipping this city tour bus would be a mistake!
I'll share all the essential details you need: the best time for night views, ticket office location, and even a little tip for snagging a great spot on the bus.
Klook Booking

First, I highly recommend booking your tickets through Klook. While you can purchase tickets on-site, popular time slots, especially for the night tour, can sell out quickly.

During the day, the city tour typically stops at various attractions, allowing passengers to disembark and listen to explanations. However, the night bus tour is different.
The night bus operates as a continuous 1-hour loop, passing by major landmarks without stopping. While the day tour focuses on historical explanations (which can be hot, and it's been the rainy season lately with daily showers), a single night tour ticket offers plenty of sightseeing. Plus, who wants to be out in the heat?
The mention of a 'Pho Museum ticket' seems a bit out of place here. It refers to a newly opened pho noodle museum where you can enjoy authentic, clean pho. It's an interesting side note but not directly related to the bus tour itself.

Ticket Office Location
The Ho Chi Minh City tour operates from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Day Tour: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Frequency: approximately every 30 minutes)
Night Tour: 4:30 PM - 9:00 PM (Frequency: approximately every 1 hour)
The starting and ending point for the tour is the Ho Chi Minh Opera House. Even if you've purchased your ticket through Klook, you'll need to show your QR code at the ticket office to exchange it for a physical ticket.

When you're facing the Ho Chi Minh Opera House, the ticket office is located to your left. It might not be immediately obvious in the first picture, but keep an eye out!

Look for the striking red building – that's your ticket office. If you've pre-booked with Klook, exchanging your QR code for a physical ticket is quick and easy. Those purchasing on the spot might experience a slight delay while their payment is processed.

Have your e-voucher ready on your phone from your email for a smooth exchange.

The staff member even managed to handle ticketing while enjoying their meal – talk about multitasking!

Once you have your physical ticket, where do you go to board? Simply turn around from the ticket office and walk straight ahead – you'll see the open-top city tour bus waiting there.

I was a bit anxious about the weather, as it had been cloudy with a chance of rain all day. Luckily, the evening cleared up, and I boarded the 6:00 PM bus.

I arrived around 5:45 PM, hoping to get a prime spot by 5:50 PM, but the upper deck was already almost full! I ended up in the seat right in front of the stairs. Honestly, with the open sides of the bus, there isn't really a "bad" seat – you get unobstructed views all around.

Seriously, aim for the 6:00 PM departure for the night tour. As the sun sets and the sky turns dusky, the colors are absolutely breathtaking! Arrive about 30 minutes early to leisurely get your ticket, board, and settle in before departure.

The route roughly follows this path. District 1, especially during the evening, experiences heavy traffic. The bus passes by various landmarks, but there's no commentary, and it moves quite quickly, so you won't have much time for detailed photos. Just relax, chat with your companions, and soak in the atmosphere!

You can even spot Landmark 81 in the distance. I've been up there before, but the entrance fee is quite steep, and being so incredibly high up can actually make the view feel a bit less impactful. Its location is also a bit out of the way, so if you're keen on observation decks, I'd recommend the Bitexco Financial Tower instead.

Crossing the bridge was definitely a highlight – such a great feeling!

On the way back, the bridge area lights up beautifully on both sides, with dazzling high-rise buildings offering fantastic photo opportunities.

As you re-enter District 1, the journey back becomes a bit of a traffic battle. From here, the tour is pretty much winding down, giving you time to decide where your next Ho Chi Minh adventure will take you.
That wraps up my review of the Ho Chi Minh City night bus tour. Remember, the 6:00 PM departure is the sweet spot! You can even book on Klook the same day. Just be sure to check the weather forecast before booking too far in advance, so you can enjoy the most spectacular night views without rain. Happy travels!
