Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
BEST 5 Must-Visit Spots

Ho Chi Minh City, often dubbed the 'Paris of the East,'
is a captivating destination where classic French colonial architecture by day
harmonizes with a vibrant, dazzling cityscape by night.

Before my visit, I admittedly expected a slightly less developed city,
but Ho Chi Minh truly surprised me with its grandeur and lively atmosphere.
It's clear why so many travelers fall in love with this city!
During my brief trip to Ho Chi Minh, I focused on exploring
the many incredible spots that were easily accessible on foot.
1. Ho Chi Minh City Hall & People's Committee Building
(Ho Chi Minh City Hall)

This central landmark, with its striking yellow French Renaissance architecture
and the Ho Chi Minh statue, truly comes alive after sunset. Its night views are absolutely stunning.
While beautiful during the day, the illuminated building at night
creates an ambiance that might make you wonder if you're still in Vietnam!

Strolling along Nguyen Hue Walking Street in front of the City Hall
and enjoying the cool evening breeze is an experience not to be missed.
I was so disappointed to discover this gem only on my last day of a four-day trip.
Unfortunately, I was too tired from walking that day to make it there, a slight regret!
2. Saigon Opera House
(Saigon Opera House)

This magnificent landmark showcases a stunning blend of classic European opera house grandeur
and the sleek modernity of towering skyscrapers.
It's a bustling hub, often serving as a pick-up point for city tours, drawing large crowds.
The surrounding area is dotted with shopping malls and trendy rooftop bars,
making it a lively spot for an evening stroll.
The Opera House itself is beautifully lit at night, and with nearby shopping districts like
Saigon Centre and Takashimaya Department Store, there's plenty to explore.
3. Ho Chi Minh Book Street (Book Street)

This charming, tree-lined street is a haven of bookstores, souvenir shops,
and quaint cafes, all nestled under lush green canopies.
You can find beautiful lantern decorations and traditional Vietnamese crafts here,
making it a perfect spot for unique souvenirs.
In particular, you'll discover souvenir magnets here that are hard to find elsewhere.
It's conveniently located right next to the Central Post Office, making it easy to visit both.
With its adorable souvenir shops, artistic paintings, and a wide selection of books,
it's an ideal place to relax with a cup of coffee and capture some beautiful photos.
4. Saigon Central Post Office
(Saigon Central Post Office)

A prime example of French colonial architecture, this post office boasts a distinctive yellow exterior
and an impressive arched ceiling inside. You can actually send postcards from within,
and it's a popular spot for snapping iconic photos under its vintage arches.
A helpful tip: Make sure to visit the Post Office before 6:00 PM.
I arrived right at 6:00 PM and couldn't get in, which was a real shame!
5. Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon

This iconic red-brick cathedral is a true landmark of Ho Chi Minh City.
However, when I visited, it was undergoing extensive renovations,
and as of 2026, reports indicate that the construction is still ongoing.
Travel Tip
Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 is incredibly walkable, with most major attractions
located within a 5-15 minute stroll of each other. This makes it perfect for a compact 1-2 day itinerary.
While the Independence Palace and Ben Thanh Market are a bit further out,
the other spots mentioned are easily reachable on foot.

I highly recommend spending your daytime exploring Book Street, enjoying a leisurely coffee,
and sending postcards from the Central Post Office – don't forget those Instagram-worthy shots!
As dusk settles, immerse yourself in the dazzling night views around City Hall Square and the Opera House.
