Craving incredible bun cha in Ho Chi Minh City? Ha Beo - Huong Vi Bac in Thao Dien offers an authentic taste of Vietnamese home cooking in a pristine, welcoming environment. A true culinary find!

A brand new, incredibly clean Vietnamese home-style restaurant just opened
near Mega Market at An Phu Station in Thao Dien, close to my place.

Their Bun Cha here is absolutely delicious!

The restaurant hasn't been open for long,
and the interior is spotless, so hygiene gets full marks from me!
How delicious is their Bun Cha, you ask?
Normally, when I visit a new restaurant, I'd try other menu items,
but I devoured a whole bowl of Bun Cha, added extra meat and vegetables,
and ended up eating a second bowl! It was THAT good!!!
They also offer a variety of Vietnamese home-style dishes,
like beef pho and chicken pho,
but I've decided to save the pho for my next visit!
Address
72-73 Song Hành, Khu đô thị An Phú An Khánh, An Khánh, Hồ Chí Minh, Việt Nam
Operating Hours
Daily 06:00 - 21:30

Spotless Interior

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch
all the dishes being prepared right inside the restaurant.
Even at around 8 PM on a weekday,
there were plenty of local Vietnamese people
enjoying dinner and a beer.
Menu at Ha Beo, Thao Dien's Bun Cha Hotspot

What I Ordered
Hanoi-style Mixed Bun Cha 75,000 VND
Crab, Shrimp, and Pork Cha Gio Bun Nem 125,000 VND
Extra Bun Cha Grilled Pork 65,000 VND
Extra Bun Cha Vegetables 15,000 VND
Kudzu Drink 25,000 VND
Perhaps because many Koreans live near Thao Dien,
the menu is also written in Korean, which is a big plus!

While there's also a cha gio with only crab meat,
I ordered the one with crab, shrimp, and pork.

Inside the crispy Bun Nem Cha Gio,
you'll find plump shrimp, crab, and pork.
It was a perfect appetizer – and definitely makes you crave a beer!!!!

This is a Hanoi-style mixed Bun Cha,
featuring charcoal-grilled pork patties
and bacon-like sliced pork belly.
You get both types of charcoal-grilled pork together.

Since the flavors and textures are different,
it was a great choice to order the mixed version!

The pork, grilled over charcoal right outside the restaurant
It's served by dipping it into the Bun Cha broth,
and they also provide noodles and fresh herbs.
You can wrap it in a fresh lettuce leaf,
or put the rice noodles and vegetables into the broth
and enjoy it with the meat – it's a traditional Vietnamese dish!

The charcoal-grilled pork patties were similar to Korean tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties)!
Super tender,
and the charcoal-grilled pork slices had a texture similar to Korean samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly),
giving them a wonderfully chewy texture.

A variety of sauces and wet wipes.

It might look a little messy, but
by adding noodles and vegetables to the Bun Cha broth,
sprinkling chili oil and pepper,
you can create your own delicious custom pho!
Since the Bun Cha broth wasn't too salty,
I could add plenty of my favorite sauces to suit my taste,
making it spicy and absolutely wonderful!

Yes... it was so incredibly delicious that I devoured one bowl in an instant,
so I added more meat for 65,000vnd
and extra vegetables for 15,000vnd.
We added more...
But wait!!!! Here's a pro tip:
A Bun Cha set is 75,000vnd,
and it comes with meat, vegetables, and noodles.
If you only want to add more meat,
or just extra vegetables or noodles separately,
then adding them individually is better.
However, if you're like us and want to add charcoal-grilled pork + vegetables
or charcoal-grilled pork + noodles,
it's more cost-effective to simply order another full Bun Cha set for 75,000vnd!
It's a much better deal!!!!
When we added extra grilled meat,
I thought we'd get more meat than what came with the original order,
but the portion size was exactly the same – total surprise! LOL.

We happily made more veggie wraps and ate them,
and Yongbam even rolled meat with cilantro
to create a "cilantro-meat wrap" for me.

Arrowroot Drink 25,000vnd
I saw an arrowroot drink on the menu, so I decided to order one.
If there's an untried menu item at a place I'm visiting for the first time,
you can bet I'm the one who orders it out of curiosity!!! That's me, me, me!
I ordered it thinking of Korean arrowroot tea,
so I was a bit surprised when a white drink arrived.
It's actually a truly healthy drink that isn't overly sweet!
Yongbam took a sip and said,
"It feels sweet, but it's not sweet, haha!"
I actually didn't mind it.
It was a great experience trying a unique Vietnamese drink – good, good!

Another successful Vietnamese home-style meal today – we polished it all off!!!
Looks like we found another gem of a restaurant in Thao Dien!
I heard their crab and tomato pho is also famous,
so I'll definitely have to try that pho next time.

Drinks, beer, coconut juice,
soy milk, and yogurt are also available.

They have a restroom inside,
and even baby chairs!

There are also outdoor terrace seats,

At Ha Beo Huong Vibac, they grill pork directly over charcoal right outside,
crafting delicious Bun Cha.

Having such delicious Vietnamese home-style food so close to home,
with this amazing spot for Hanoi-style Bun Cha and pho popping up,
makes me so happy! I'll definitely go back to try other dishes.
