Ho Chi Minh District 1's Must-Try Restaurant
Bep Me In
Hello, I'm Lisa!
When you're exploring Ho Chi Minh, Bun Cha and Banh Xeo are absolute must-tries!
These aren't dishes you easily find back home, so if you're in Vietnam, I highly recommend giving them a taste.
The place I visited this time is a Ho Chi Minh District 1 restaurant celebrated in the Michelin Guide for its incredible Bun Cha and Banh Xeo.
When I first visited, I thought it was pretty good, but nothing extraordinary.
But about 10 months later, I went back with my parents, and it was absolutely delicious – a truly memorable meal!
What's more, they've even expanded and now offer a variety of Banh Mi styles too!
So, let me share my experience with you all!
Three-Line Summary!
✔️ Ordering Banh Xeo, the Vietnamese savory pancake, is an absolute must!
✔️ It's a Michelin-recognized Ho Chi Minh restaurant offering a wide array of Vietnamese dishes.
✔️ There might be a wait during peak hours, so try visiting during off-peak times for a smoother experience!

Exterior and Interior.

Bep Me In, a Michelin-recognized gem in Ho Chi Minh, is a District 1 eatery conveniently located right in front of the popular Ben Thanh Market.
Follow the small sign down an alleyway,
and you'll find a row of various nail art shops.
The restaurant is tucked away right inside there.

When I first visited, there was just Bep Me In operating here,
but when I returned about 10 months later, a Banh Mi shop had opened right next door!

I arrived right at lunchtime, so there was a bit of a wait,
but since they'd expanded their space, we were able to get in quite quickly.
Menu

I was truly surprised by how extensive the menu was!
Beyond Banh Xeo and Bun Cha, which Bep Me In is famous for, they also offer Com Tam (pork chop rice), Nem Nuong (a sausage-like dish), and Bun Thit Nuong (vermicelli with grilled pork).
With such a vast selection, I thought it would be wonderful to order a variety of dishes if you visit with a group.

Right next door was Banh Mi Main, so I took a picture of them together.
There were *so* many varieties of Banh Mi!
However, we had already enjoyed delicious banh mi at Banh Mi Huynh Hoa earlier in the day, so we didn't order any separately.
Table Setup

Neat and charming place settings were laid out for each person.
In hot Vietnam, ordering drinks is absolutely essential..!!
You just can't skip them!

Beer was around ~$2.
Soft drinks were around ~$1.
They also offer various fruit juices and coffee.

Bun Cha
139,000동
(~$5)

The first dish to arrive was Bun Cha.
It's a delightful dish featuring pork, rice vermicelli (which looks a bit like glass noodles!), and a vibrant array of vegetables.

Enjoying it is simple!
Just place some meat and rice vermicelli onto a bed of fresh greens,
then dip it all into the sauce provided in the middle.
The sauce is typically fish sauce-based,
with Nuoc Mam sauce as its foundation – so delicious!

It offers a delightful tangy yet healthy flavor, making it perfect for everyone, even adults, to enjoy without feeling heavy.
Banh Xeo
139,000동
~$5
Next up is Banh Xeo, often called the 'Vietnamese pancake'!

Just like an omelet, the exterior is wonderfully thin and crispy,
while the inside bursts with a colorful medley of fresh vegetables.

You can also enjoy this with various fresh vegetables and a dipping of nuoc mam sauce.
It's a taste where you can somehow feel the savory richness of egg and coconut, wouldn't you say?!!
It's wonderfully filling thanks to all the vegetables,
and with its crispy exterior and tender interior, I just knew, 'Ah, this really is a Michelin-worthy spot!'
보 루이 Bo Lui
239,000동
Approximately ~$9

Next up is Bo Lui.
It's a dish featuring beef skewers alongside those delightful rolled rice noodles.

I had those rolled noodles on a previous trip and loved them so much I'd been searching for them,
and luckily, Bep Mien had them on the menu, so I had to order them!

And just as I remembered... wonderfully bouncy and delightfully chewy.
Their texture is reminiscent of tteok (Korean rice cakes), making them a perfect pairing with the meat.
This is definitely a highly recommended dish at Bep Mien!
껌 땀 com tom
149,000동
Approximately ~$5

Com Tam, served with a fried egg and grilled pork ribs.
It's essentially a grilled pork rib rice bowl.
I'd tried it before at a famous Com Tam spot in District 3, and while I was excited to try it again here, Bep Mien's version was a little disappointing~!

The meat was a bit tough~! So, if you're visiting Bep Mien, I'd suggest trying something else over the Com Tam, haha!
Morning Glory
79,000동
Approximately ~$3

And then there's Morning Glory, which honestly tastes amazing with any dish!
Since I was traveling with my parents, I wanted a reliable side dish,
and this dish was a hit because it tasted quite similar to our Korean seasoned spinach, making it a comforting and delicious option.
Coconut Fried Rice
149,000동
Approximately ~$5

This Coconut Fried Rice was my choice when I was looking for something more filling.
It came out quite a bit later than the other dishes!
I'm not sure if they missed our order or if it just naturally takes longer to prepare ㅠㅠ.
But despite the wait, it was wonderfully savory and delicious. The pairing with the Morning Glory was absolutely perfect!
Wrapping Up
This time, I've shared my experience at a fantastic restaurant in Ho Chi Minh's District 1,
Bep Mien, a Michelin-recognized spot near Ben Thanh Market where you can savor a wide array of Vietnamese dishes.
While the prices might be a bit on the higher side,
the quality and taste were so excellent that the prices felt completely justified.
There can be a wait during peak hours, so it might be a good idea to visit during off-peak times to avoid the crowds.
While their Banh Xeo and Bun Cha are delicious, I highly recommend trying the Bo Lui with its wonderfully bouncy, rolled rice noodles – it's a must-try!
Definitely Planning a Return Visit!
