Hiroshima Airport Bus Guide 2026: How to Reach Downtown
Navigating Hiroshima Airport to the city center is a breeze! Here is your step-by-step 2026 guide to taking the limousine bus, buying tickets, and using IC cards.
With more direct flights connecting major international hubs to Hiroshima Airport (HIJ) lately, visiting this historic Japanese city has never been easier!
Here is a quick, stress-free guide on how to take the airport limousine bus straight into downtown Hiroshima. :)

Hiroshima Airport is relatively small and incredibly easy to navigate, so you won't have to worry about getting lost.
Once you exit the arrivals hall through the main doors, look immediately to your right! You’ll find the taxi stands, ticket vending machines, and bus platforms all grouped closely together in one convenient area.

There are clear signs on the pillars along the way, so simply follow them to the bus stops.
Airport Bus Platform Guide

Finding the bus area is simple, but choosing the right platform can be slightly confusing for first-timers heading into downtown Hiroshima.
Both Platforms 1 and 2 go into the city center, but they drop you off at entirely different locations.
Platform | Destination |
Platform 1 | Hiroshima Bus Center |
Platform 2 | Hiroshima Station |
Platform 3 | Onomichi / Mihara / Fukuyama |
Platform 4 | Shiraichi / Saijo |
Platform 5 | Taxi Stand |
Platform 6 | Takehara / Tadanoumi |
If your hotel is located near Hatchobori or the downtown shopping district, you'll want to hop on the bus at Platform 1 (Hiroshima Bus Center).
If you are staying right by Hiroshima Station, head to Platform 2 instead!
I highly recommend checking the official website beforehand to confirm the current bus timetables and exact fares.

How to Buy Bus Tickets

There is a ticket vending machine located directly next to Bus Platform 2.

If you head inside the glass doors near Platform 3 (the Domestic Arrivals area), you'll find three more ticket machines inside.
If you arrive during a busy flight window, buying your ticket at the indoor machines is often much quicker!

If you already have a Japanese IC transit card like ICOCA or Suica, you can tap to ride directly.
Just keep in mind that you cannot top up your Suica at these airport machines. Fortunately, contactless credit cards are also accepted on these buses, making transit incredibly seamless!
The ticket machines accept both cash and credit cards, making the process very straightforward.

For my trip, I purchased a ticket heading toward Fukuyama from Platform 3.
Important Boarding Tips

Seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning Platforms 1 and 2 get very busy.
If a bus fills up, you'll have to wait for the next one. Since lines get long right after flights land, I highly recommend heading straight to the queue once you have your ticket.

Unlike the airport buses in Tokyo or Osaka where staff load your luggage, here you'll need to load your bags into the lower compartment yourself.

Just remember you can tap your IC card or contactless card directly upon boarding!
While Hiroshima Airport is small, knowing the bus routes ahead of time makes getting downtown completely stress-free. Have an amazing trip exploring Hiroshima!
