2. Where to Board

You need to board the Haruka at JR Osaka Station.
However, Osaka Station has many exits and is very large,
so it's easy to get lost if it's your first time.
On top of that, if you enter through the JR Central Gate,
it takes about another 15 minutes of walking inside the station
to get to Platform 21, where the Haruka departs.
-
So, considering the time it takes to find your way,
I highly recommend getting there 30 to 40 minutes before your train departure!

I went in through the central entrance and struggled big time 😭
To reach Platform 21 where the Haruka departs,
I had to pass through Platforms 7 and 8,
which meant going up and down escalators repeatedly with my heavy suitcase.
The signs were clear enough to find the way,
but it was so crowded that navigating through the station was quite a challenge.

After walking for a bit, I spotted the West Gate.
If I had entered from this side in the first place,
it would have been so much easier to get around.
Don't make the same mistake I did by starting at the Central Gate—
head straight for the West Gate instead!

After riding the escalator about two more times, I finally arrived!
It's tucked pretty deep inside,
so if it's your first time, you're almost guaranteed to get a bit lost.
Make sure to give yourself plenty of extra buffer time.

You'll board the Haruka from Platform 21,
but since other trains use this platform too,
you must double-check the train name and departure time
on the electronic schedule board before hopping on.

Once you board the Haruka, just store your suitcase in the luggage rack
and find your reserved seat.

The scenery on the way from Umeda to Kansai Airport
is absolutely beautiful, so try to grab a window seat!
3. Arriving at the Airport

You'll arrive back at the same train station
you passed through on day one.
While Terminal 1 is just a short walk across the bridge,
Terminal 2 requires you to take a shuttle bus.
So, if you're flying with Jeju Air or Peach Aviation,
make sure to budget an extra 20 minutes or so.

And that's how I took the Haruka
from Umeda to Kansai Airport!
Finding the boarding platform was a bit of a trek since it's hidden deep inside the station,
but because the train is incredibly punctual,
I still had plenty of time to grab a delicious meal
and leisurely browse the duty-free shops as planned.
I highly recommend heading out
about 40 minutes earlier
than your scheduled train departure time just to be safe!
