Rather than calling this a "must-visit" spot or a top recommendation for your Phu Quoc itinerary, think of this review as a "curiosity-satisfied" guide. I climbed up to check it out so you can decide if it's worth your time.

True to its name, this spot sits perched high on a hill. The entrance to the path leading up was right next to where I stayed on my first night in Phu Quoc. After arriving, wrapping up some urgent remote work, and grabbing a bite at the nearby The Home Pizza, it was already quite late. It felt too late to commit to a major night out, but too early to just sleep. Since I could see the glow of the bar from the pizza spot, I decided to make the trek.

The path from the main road is a continuous, steep incline. Walking down might be fine, but walking up on foot was surprisingly exhausting. To be honest, I didn't see a single other soul walking up—everyone else seemed to take a scooter or taxi.

Finally, the outline of the club started to emerge from the darkness.

I had finally arrived. I didn't have a specific expectation of what it would look like, but whatever I might have imagined, this unique facade wasn't it.

The layout is quite unusual. Near the second-floor entrance, there is a bar counter. If you venture deeper inside, you will find a dark electronic dance stage, while the right side opens up to an outdoor terrace—the actual hilltop bar area overlooking the town.

Perhaps it was the dim, saturated lighting, but the table seating felt a bit eerie and desolate. It wasn't exactly the warm, inviting atmosphere I usually look for in a lounge.

That said, Happy Buddha Club definitely seems to appeal to a specific niche. While the style felt foreign to me, it clearly resonates with the Western expat and backpacker crowd. When I first arrived, the place was virtually empty, but as the night went on, groups of travelers kept trickling in.

I sat at one of the outdoor tables and had a quick beer. If you are expecting sweeping, sparkling night views of Duong Dong, you might be disappointed—there really isn't much of a view to speak of at night. I imagine the view during the day would be much nicer, but since it's a pub, it doesn't open until dark. The terrace feels more like a spot to catch a breeze or have a quiet conversation away from the loud music inside.

The crowd was almost entirely Western travelers, and everyone seemed to be having a great time socialising and enjoying the electronic beats.

While I'm glad I satisfied my curiosity, the music, the beer, and the overall vibe didn't quite hit the mark for me, so I headed out shortly after finishing my drink. It was getting significantly busier just as I was leaving, though!
