One weekend in Hayang (하양), Gyeongsan (경산),
while looking for a place to have lunch,
I visited Samdong Soba Gyeongsan Branch (삼동소바 경산점).
I had heard that it's usually very crowded,
so I went with a bit of worry.
And sure enough, when I arrived,
there were people waiting.
But once I got there,
waiting was more comfortable than I expected,
and parking was quite easy.
Best of all, the food we ordered that day
was much more generous than I anticipated,
and by the end, I felt like my stomach was going to burst! Haha.

Today, I'll honestly share everything,
from the dishes I tried myself,
to the parking and waiting experience.

Here's Samdong Soba Gyeongsan Branch,
which I found in Hayang, Gyeongsan.
As soon as I arrived at the restaurant,
the very first thing I checked was the parking.
For popular weekend spots, the food is important,
but sometimes parking can be an even bigger worry, right?
However, at Samdong Soba Gyeongsan Branch,
they have parking spaces available both in front and to the side of the building,
making it convenient to visit by car.

The fact that I didn't have to drive around for ages looking for parking
was a big plus for me right away.
Especially when dining out with family,
convenient parking is subtly important, I've found.
Why Waiting Was Comfortable, Even With a Queue
Samdong Soba, a Must-Visit Restaurant in Hayang, Gyeongsan

Even when we visited,
there were customers waiting.
But what was great here was
the existence of a separate waiting area!

In a building across the street,
a dedicated waiting area is set up,
so we didn't have to stand outside the whole time,
and could wait comfortably seated.
On hot or cold days,
a space like this seems really useful.
While there was a wait,
the feeling of discomfort during the wait
was minimal.
If you plan to visit on a weekend,
it's probably best to anticipate some waiting time.
Clean and Inviting Restaurant Atmosphere

Stepping inside the restaurant,
it was clean and well-organized throughout.
The table spacing was good,
and I saw families visiting,
as well as people dining solo.

Orders can be placed
easily using the tablet at your table.
It was convenient to browse the menu at leisure
and order exactly what we wanted right away.
Plus, baby chairs are available,
so families visiting with children
might find that helpful.
Our Order for the Day
Samdong Soba Recommended Menu

Since I was pretty hungry that day,
I ordered quite a bit! Haha.
Well, I'm always hungry, to be fair! Haha.
The items we ordered were:
✔ Udon Set Menu
✔ Soft Tofu Jjamppong Udon
✔ King-sized Yubu Chobap (Fried Tofu Pocket Sushi)
✔ Bowl of Rice
That's what we ordered.

Once the meal was set,
it was quite generous, more than I expected!
Honestly, when I hear Samdong Soba (삼동소바),
buckwheat soba is the first thing that comes to mind for me.
But on this particular day, oddly enough,
I was really craving something spicy and hearty. Haha!
So, instead of buckwheat soba,
I chose the Soft Tofu Jjamppong Udon (순두부짬뽕우동).
I decided to save the soba for another time.
The self-serve bar was also spotless.

The self-serve bar was neatly organized,
and you could help yourself to any side dishes you needed.

These are the side dishes I brought on this day.
It was great to be able to
conveniently take as much as I needed during the meal.
I love *danmuji* (단무지),
so I made sure to get plenty today too. Haha!

Soft Tofu Jjamppong Udon
Samdong Soba, a Gyeongsan Hayang (경산하양) hotspot

The menu item I was most looking forward to today was
the Soft Tofu Jjamppong Udon.
When the dish first came out,
the first thing that caught my eye
was the surprisingly large bowl.
I thought it would just be a regular bowl of udon,
but the bowl was quite deep.
And there was a generous amount of noodles too.

The broth was spicy,
but not as intensely spicy as I expected.
However, the black pepper flavor was quite strong.
Since there was plenty of soft tofu,
when the soft tofu was added to the spicy broth,
it felt a bit milder.
Not only soft tofu,
but also bean sprouts and meat were included,
so the ingredients were more abundant than I thought.

I tried eating the soft tofu
with the springy udon noodles, and
they paired surprisingly well.
Normally, after eating *jjamppong* (짬뽕),
I tend to add rice because I don't want to waste the broth.
This day, right from the start, after eating the udon,
I planned to have rice, so I ordered an extra bowl of rice in advance.
And sure enough,
this broth absolutely needed rice mixed in! 😂

After finishing the noodles,
mixing in a bowl of rice with the leftover *jjamppong* broth
made it incredibly filling.
No, not just filling —
I was absolutely stuffed! LOL.
This was definitely not a meal
where I felt like the portion was too small.

The Udon Set Meal was more generous than I expected!

Next up is the Udon Set Meal.
It's a menu that comes with Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) alongside the udon.
If the Soft Tofu Jjamppong Udon was a spicy dish,
the Udon Set Meal was a bit cleaner and
had a softer, more enjoyable feel to eat.

With the clean udon broth,
and eating it with the Tonkatsu,
it was quite a satisfying meal.

The Tonkatsu was also crispy on the outside,
and tender on the inside,
making it great to eat with the udon.
If you visit with others,
I'd recommend ordering one spicy dish like I did,
and one clean-tasting dish,
to share and enjoy.
The Inari Sushi was truly huge!

And the dish that truly caught my eye that day,
the most striking item on the menu,
was none other than the Inari Sushi (유부초밥).
Ta-da! Haha
It was super big!

When I actually received it,
it was much bigger than I expected.
There was quite a lot of rice inside the fried tofu pouch,
so I figured even just one would be surprisingly filling.

I had already eaten udon,
and even added rice to the Soft Tofu Jjamppong Udon,
so trying to eat the Inari Sushi on top of all that,
my stomach felt like it was going to explode! lol
In the end, I couldn't finish all the Inari Sushi.
You can pack up leftover food yourself!

But here's another thing I really liked!
When I looked towards the self-serve bar,
I saw packaging containers and plastic bags for leftover food readily available.
You don't need to ask a staff member separately;
you can just pack it yourself.
When you feel bad about wasting food,
having a system like this is definitely convenient.

We also packed up our leftover Inari Sushi
neatly.

When I brought it home and ate it,
it felt like a whole different experience! Haha.
Honestly, that day I was so full,
it might have been a good thing I couldn't eat it all.
Next time, for Soba!

But above all, the biggest impression I got that day was
that the portion sizes were generous overall!
While we did order a lot of different things,
by the end, we were absolutely stuffed! Lol.
Next time, I definitely want to
try the Buckwheat Soba (메밀소바)! Haha.

Parking was relatively easy,
there was a separate waiting area,
and most importantly, the generous food portions made it
a great place to have a hearty meal.
If you're in Gyeongsan Hayang (경산 하양)
looking for a weekend lunch spot or a family restaurant,
I think Samdong Soba Gyeongsan Branch (삼동소바 경산점) would be a great place for you to check out too.
As for me, next time,
I'm definitely going back to try the soba I missed out on today! 😊
