Guam eSIM Review 2026: RingSIM for Data & Android Auto
Heading to Guam? Our 2026 review covers RingSIM eSIM performance for navigation, social media, and more. Learn setup tips and compare options for your trip!

If you're planning to explore Guam by rental car, reliable data is an absolute must. We knew we'd be relying heavily on maps while driving, so connection stability on the go was just as important as the price.
For our trip, we received a RingSIM eSIM to test, and I also purchased another brand's eSIM separately for a direct comparison. Below, I'll share my real-world experience using eSIMs in Guam, from connecting to Android Auto for navigation to staying online when hotel Wi-Fi was spotty.
1. eSIM vs. Physical SIM

A physical SIM requires you to insert a small chip into your phone, meaning you'd need to store your original SIM safely if you swap it out. An eSIM, on the other hand, registers network information directly onto compatible phones, eliminating the need to physically remove or swap tiny chips.
RingSIM is installed using a QR code or registration details provided to you. This convenience of skipping physical delivery or pickup is fantastic, but remember that not all phones support eSIMs. Always check your device's compatibility before purchasing.
2. Options and Price Comparison

The RingSIM Guam eSIM I used offered 2GB of high-speed data daily, followed by unlimited throttled data, for a 4-day period. The other company's eSIM I purchased also offered a similar 2GB daily high-speed data with unlimited throttled data after, for 4 days. This allowed for a fair price comparison of Guam eSIM options.
※ Prices can vary based on purchase timing and promotional offers.
Comparison Item | RingSIM | Other Company |
Usage Period | 4 Days | 4 Days |
Daily Data | 2GB | 2GB |
After 2GB Usage | Unlimited (Throttled) | Unlimited (Throttled) |
Comparison Price | ~$13 | ~$14 |
Daily Cost | ~$3 | ~$3 |
When choosing an unlimited Guam eSIM plan, it's crucial to look at both the high-speed data allowance and the speed after that allowance is used. Both options I used provided 2GB of high-speed data daily, after which the speed was reduced.
Comparing the 2GB daily high-speed data with unlimited throttled data for 4 days, RingSIM's displayed total price was about ~$1 lower than the other company. In my comparison, RingSIM was slightly more budget-friendly.

3. Installation Preparation

Setting up your Guam eSIM is straightforward if you break it down into two steps: pre-departure installation and on-arrival activation. The RingSIM notification I received included my selected plan details and a 'Check QR Code' button.

For Android, the instructions suggested navigating to 'Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM' to either scan the QR code or manually enter the registration details. Ensure you have a stable internet connection during this process, and verify that the line is registered in your SIM manager afterward.
iPhone users can follow the provided guidance: 'Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM'. Keep in mind that screen layouts might differ slightly depending on your phone model and operating system, so it's a good idea to save the installation guide you receive beforehand.
4. On-Arrival Settings

Once you land in Guam, turn on your travel eSIM line and select it for mobile data. RingSIM's instructions advise turning on data roaming for your travel eSIM and turning off data roaming for your home country's SIM.
Also, make sure to disable 'Data Switching' or 'Allow Cellular Data Switching' to prevent your phone from defaulting to your home SIM. This is a common point of confusion when setting up a Guam eSIM, so double-checking which line's roaming settings you're adjusting is key.
For iPhones, you'll go to 'Settings → Cellular,' activate your travel line, and select it for cellular data. If you plan to make calls using your home number, be sure to check the separate call rates.
5. Real-World Usage Review

During our actual use in Guam, we experienced no major issues connecting to Android Auto for navigation while driving our rental car. We could use apps like KakaoTalk and Instagram without interruption at our hotel and grocery stores. When the hotel Wi-Fi was unreliable, we simply switched to RingSIM data. Even at a buggy car experience in the mountains, data connectivity was normal.
To get a comparative perspective, I bought another eSIM from a different provider and tested both simultaneously in the same locations and on the same device. However, on a specific stretch of road descending a cliff towards Ritidian Beach, both RingSIM and the other company's eSIM lost data connectivity.
Since both eSIMs lost connection in the identical road section, it suggests the issue might have been due to the local cellular environment rather than the eSIMs themselves, though I didn't confirm the exact cause.
Usage Scenario | RingSIM Experience |
Driving & Android Auto Navigation | Seamless usage, except for a specific section descending to Ritidian Beach |
KakaoTalk at Hotel/Store | Uninterrupted use |
Instagram at Hotel | Uninterrupted use |
When Hotel Wi-Fi Was Poor | Switched to RingSIM data |
Buggy Car Experience (Mountains) | Normal data usage |
Specific Road Section to Ritidian Beach | Both RingSIM & other eSIM lost data connection |
When venturing into more remote areas, it's a good idea to download maps and save reservation details offline in advance. Before you depart, double-check your device's compatibility and understand how the usage period begins. Also, if you plan to use your home number for calls, verify those rates separately.
If you're searching for Guam eSIM reviews, I hope my experiences with specific locations and data conditions prove helpful. Saving the eSIM setup instructions beforehand will also make on-site activation much smoother.
