Thinking about booking a Porto winery tour? Here is my honest review of Graham's Port Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, including booking tips and tasting notes.
Finally writing about my trip to Porto, Portugal this past May!🇵🇹
As a hardcore planner (a total "Type J"), I meticulously compared everything before taking off...
...and one of the experiences I was most excited about booking was
the Graham's Winery Tour over in Vila Nova de Gaia!
In my previous travel prep post, I was comparing the tasting menus and prices between the official Graham's website and MyRealTrip.
Ultimately, I ended up booking the MyRealTrip Veiju Porto Winery Tour,
and having experienced it firsthand, I can say it was an incredibly rich and super satisfying tour!✨
I've already detailed my booking dilemmas and why I chose this specific tour in a separate post!

Porto Winery Booking - Graham's Official Site vs. Korean-Guided Tour Comparison (Prices & Benefits)
In my last post, I compared the must-do winery tours in Porto by region
My partner and I had only ever done winery tours in English before,
but now I totally get why people choose a Korean-guided tour haha.
The information was incredibly rich, asking questions was so easy, and everything was just so easy to digest!
In particular, our guide Hailey from Veiju Porto
did an amazing job explaining everything about Graham's Winery and port wine.
She even went out of her way to enthusiastically take souvenir photos for everyone one by one—I wasn't expecting that at all!
On top of that, everything from the port wine tasting selection to the 10% discount at the wine shop was absolutely perfect!
Even if you know absolutely nothing about port wine, you'll still have an amazing and satisfying time.
Here is my honest, 100% unsponsored review of the Porto Winery Tour
Let's get this Happy Record started!✨

Recommended Porto Winery Tour - (Douro Valley vs. Downtown Graham's) Booking Comparison
The trip I've been looking forward to the most this year: Spain 🇪🇸 & Portugal 🇵🇹
🔗⬇️Curious about [Happy Records' 17-Night, 19-Day Travel Itinerary]? Check it out below!⬇️
When planning, I seriously considered doing a Douro Valley tour, which is famous for its stunning views.
However, for car-free travelers like us, spending 10 hours of round-trip travel in a single day
felt like a bit of a stretch physically and time-wise. 😅
So, we decided on Graham's in Vila Nova de Gaia downtown—
where we could still enjoy a gorgeous view of the Douro River and taste top-shelf wines. Final decision made! 🍇
✔️
The tour started at 10:00 AM and wrapped up around 12:00 PM.
Since it ended right around lunchtime, the timing and route were absolutely perfect for heading straight to a restaurant!
Plus, since we had the entire afternoon left after the tour,
we were able to make the absolute most of our day exploring downtown Porto!🇵🇹
Graham's Winery was about a 20-minute bus ride from our hotel near São Bento Station,
and it took about 20 minutes by bus.
I'll be posting a review of this hotel soon—it was honestly my favorite stay of the entire trip!✨
PortoBay Teatro, Porto, 6/12 – 6/13
When crossing the Dom Luís I Bridge on the bus to Vila Nova de Gaia,
I absolutely loved being able to take in the beautiful, postcard-perfect scenery of Porto!

We got off the bus and followed Google Maps,
but since we only saw residential apartment buildings,
we kept walking while doubting, "Are we actually in the right place?"

But as you keep walking and taking in the neighborhood...
the entrance to Graham's Winery will suddenly appear!
And they even have a dedicated parking lot for Graham's right next to it.

The view of Porto from the winery entrance was absolutely stunning.
Pure bliss and healing ✨

The lush, green garden vibes right in front of the Graham's lobby entrance 🌿
We arrived a bit too early, so the main gates weren't open yet.
So we just hung out and waited for our guide to arrive, haha.
But getting here early meant we had the place to ourselves,
which was the perfect opportunity to snap some gorgeous, crowd-free photos in front of the winery!

At the meeting spot right in front of the Graham’s Port Lodge lobby,
our guide, Hayley, came out and gave us the warmest welcome.
Before the tour officially kicks off, you can look around the lobby and use the restroom.
(And trust me, the restrooms are absolutely spotless! ✨)

Once the tour officially begins,
they hand out these cute pink audio receivers from Beiju Porto.
The sound quality was fantastic, and we could hear every detail of the explanation perfectly!

Stepping into the underground wine cellar, where rows of oak barrels stretch endlessly,
you're greeted by a subtle, rich oak aroma. The atmosphere is incredibly grand and mesmerizing!
Since it's a wine cellar, the temperature is quite cool, too.

Port wine comes in varieties like Ruby, Tawny, and Vintage,
and since the grape varieties, fermentation, and aging processes are different from regular wine, it can get a bit complicated to understand.

That's why I was so glad we took a guided tour!
Our guide broke down all the basics so clearly
and even repeated the key points so they'd stick with us. It was super easy to follow!

Aside from the fascinating wine history, she also took us to all the best photo spots
and enthusiastically snapped photos for us along the way.
She literally got down on one knee to get the perfect angle—so sweet! 🥺
We didn't expect to get such lovely couple photos, which kept us smiling throughout the entire tour! ❤️

You can see a long vertical level gauge attached to each of the massive oak casks.
They said it lets them check exactly how much Port wine is filled inside in real-time
without even having to open the barrels! So cool and clever.

We also got to admire Graham's historic, vintage logbooks.

Venturing deeper into the wine cellar,
you'll come across a private, gated area...
This is where Graham's historic vintage Port wines are stored by year of production!
It was incredibly impressive to see so many different vintages, including some extremely old bottles,
all bottled and resting horizontally.
🍷
Our guide explained why they store wine bottles on their sides:
It keeps the cork in contact with the wine so it stays moist and doesn't shrink!
If the cork dries out, air can seep through the gaps,
causing the wine to oxidize and spoil.

Once the fascinating cellar tour wrapped up,
we bypassed the open main tasting tables at Graham's
and headed into a private tasting room reserved exclusively for our tour group!

We couldn't help but go "Ooh!" and "Aah!" as we walked in snapping photos, haha.
Our guide called us out by name one by one,
guiding us to our designated seats.

Beautifully arranged on the table were our four selected wines
alongside their perfect food pairings. ✨

My partner and I chose different options so we could share and try a variety! 🥂
✔️ Beige Porto Tasting (€55)
✔️ Jenna's Choice (€70)
There were even Korean tasting notes prepared on the table,
so listening to our guide's explanation while referencing the notes
made us feel like true wine connoisseurs!
We could ask questions freely as we sipped,
and our guide, Haley, answered every single one of them with so much passion until the very end.

To be honest, I joined the tour only knowing that "Port wine is sweet,"
but after listening to our guide's explanation and tasting the different lineups myself,
it was amazing how I could actually taste the subtle, unique differences in each glass.
Especially depending on what you pair it with—like cheese, chocolate, or pastel de nata (egg tarts)—
the pairing experience completely transforms.
It was a fun, delicious, and delightfully buzzy tasting session 🍷
Swapping stories with the people at our table was such a fun little bonus! ✨

I snapped a photo of our empty wine glasses before leaving the tasting room.
On our way out, I noticed
there's also an outdoor tasting area
overlooking the Douro River and downtown Porto.
The vibe here was absolutely incredible, too! 🌿

One of the best perks of booking through Beiju Porto is that you get a
10% discount on wine purchases at the Graham's Shop on your way out!
Since my partner and I were already planning
to buy some Port wine during our Porto trip anyway, this was an absolute win for us.
⭐️
One bottle of Graham's 20 Year Old Tawny, which was my partner's absolute favorite during the tasting;
one bottle of Graham's 10 Year Old Tawny to give as a gift;
and finally, a very special 2010 Vintage Port (bottled in 2012) to pop on our 10th wedding anniversary!
We made full use of the discount and finished our shopping spree at a great price! 🛍️

As for our Graham's Vintage Port,
we have it stored safely on its side, waiting for that special day 10 years from now!

Once you finish browsing the Graham's Wine Shop, the walk outside
rewards you with the most breathtaking view of Porto.
The sea of red roofs contrasted against the lush greenery is pure therapy.

After soaking in the stunning views and taking tons of photos,
it was sadly time to say goodbye to Graham’s.
On our way down, I made sure to snap a picture of another entrance to the winery! 📷

We've taken countless tours during our travels around the world,
but this Porto Winery Tour definitely ranks at the top for both value and sheer enjoyment.
I'll absolutely be recommending this to any friends or family heading to Porto! ✨
Instead of just drinking wine in a beautiful spot and calling it a day,
getting to fully understand the history and rich stories of Portuguese wine
made it so much more fun and infinitely more memorable.
The tours by Beige Porto have such stellar reviews
that the popular time slots and dates book up incredibly fast!
If you're planning to visit the Graham's Winery Tour, I highly recommend booking early-!
Such an incredibly satisfying and fulfilling Porto winery tour.
Ending my 100% honest, self-funded review on a happy note-✨

A Douro Valley tour takes about 10 hours round trip, which is a heavy travel burden for travelers without a car. On the other hand, Graham's Port Lodge is located in the Gaia district and is highly accessible, taking only about 20 minutes by bus from accommodations near São Bento Station.
The tour starts at 10:00 AM and ends around 12:00 PM, taking about 2 hours in total. Since it finishes right around lunchtime, it provides an efficient route for having a meal or continuing your afternoon itinerary in downtown Porto.
The tasting options are 55 euros for the Beijo Porto Tasting and 70 euros for Jenna's Choice. Each option includes 4 glasses of port wine, paired with foods like cheese, chocolate, and egg tarts.
Yes, you can get a 10% discount when purchasing wine at the Graham's shop on your way out after the tour. This allows you to buy wines like 20-year-old Tawny Port or Vintage Port at a relatively lower price.
