I visited Samyeongdaesa Park (사명대사공원) in Gimcheon (김천) on October 4th, 2026. If you're planning to see the autumn leaves at Jikjisa Temple (직지사), I highly recommend combining it with a visit to the adjacent Samyeongdaesa Park!
I'll share real-time updates on Gimcheon's fall foliage and details about the Gimbap Festival, running from October 23rd (Friday) to October 25th (Sunday), 2026.
01 Gimcheon Fall Foliage Real-time Info (Samyeongdaesa Park)

As of October 4th, 2026, the mountains behind Samyeongdaesa Park were still predominantly green. However, the trees within the park itself had already begun to change, with a beautiful mix of red and yellow leaves appearing around the Peace Pagoda (평화의탑)!

The most striking autumn foliage in Samyeongdaesa Park was a single maple tree in front of Cafe Solhyang (카페솔향). It was already a vibrant crimson, creating a picturesque scene with the traditional hanok buildings – a perfect blend of late summer and early autumn vibes 😍

So, if you visit now, you'll see a gradual change starting with a few trees within the park, rather than the entire mountain range. For a full mountain ablaze with color, I recommend visiting after mid-October.
02 Samyeongdaesa Park Walk and Cafe Solhyang

I stayed at Solhyang Stay (솔향스테이), an accommodation located within Samyeongdaesa Park.
Taking an early morning stroll along the walking paths, I found the Peace Pagoda (평화의탑) illuminated by the sunlight offered a completely different charm from its nighttime view. Plus, with fewer people around, it was much easier to take photos!

Cafe Solhyang (카페솔향) is a perfect spot to relax during your walk. It's about a 5-minute walk from the Solhyang Stay parking lot, and this hanok-style cafe offers direct views of the Peace Pagoda from its windows. It's ideal for enjoying a coffee after taking some autumn foliage photos!

If you spend the day exploring Jikjisa Temple and the park, be sure to stay until evening for the Peace Pagoda's (평화의탑) night view. With its lights, it transforms into a completely different, absolutely stunning atmosphere 😭

03 Jikjisa Parking & Gimcheon Gimbap Festival

Samyeongdaesa Park is right next to Jikjisa Temple, so many visitors explore both locations together to enjoy the autumn leaves.
Towards the end of this month, the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival will also be held in this area. I've put together some useful information on parking, admission fees, and the festival schedule to help you plan your visit.
Item | Details |
Samyeongdaesa Park Admission | Free |
Jikjisa Temple Admission | Free (Cultural Heritage viewing fees have been waived since May 2023) |
Parking | Samyeongdaesa Park Parking Lot: 83 spaces, Health & Culture Center Parking Lot: 26 spaces |
Gimcheon Gimbap Festival | October 23 (Fri) - 25 (Sun), 2026 |
Festival Location | Jikji Cultural Park (직지문화공원), Samyeongdaesa Park (사명대사공원), Eco-Friendly Ecological Park (친환경생태공원) area |
When I visited on October 4th, 2026, the Samyeongdaesa Park parking lot was already full just after 11 AM. During peak fall foliage season and on weekends, it will likely be even more crowded, so I recommend arriving early in the morning!

Parking will be significantly more challenging during the Gimbap Festival, so it's advisable to use the shuttle bus or the Kakao T direct shuttle service.
You can make reservations on the official Gimcheon Gimbap Festival website. Keep in mind that the festival dates don't always perfectly coincide with the peak autumn foliage. If your main goal is to see the fall colors, it might be better to visit on a less crowded day outside the festival dates!
