2. Standard vs. Premium Ticket Booking Methods

Ghibli Park offers two types of tickets: Premium and Standard.
Tickets typically go on sale two months before your visit,
Premium tickets, in particular, sell out incredibly fast, so if your travel dates are set, it's best to book as quickly as possible!
For example:
✔ Visiting in November -> Book on September 10th
✔ Visiting in December -> Book on October 10th
Tickets open exactly at 2:00 PM (JST)
So, if you plan to visit in December,
you'll need to be ready to purchase your tickets precisely at 2:00 PM (JST) on the upcoming October 10th!
So, what's the difference between Premium and Standard tickets?
Premium | Standard | |
Accessible Areas | ✔ Ghibli's Grand Warehouse ✔ Hill of Youth ✔ Dondoko Forest ✔ Mononoke Village ✔ Valley of Witches ✔ Okino Residence ✔ Howl's Castle Full access to all building interiors | ✔ Ghibli's Grand Warehouse ✔ Mononoke Village ✔ Valley of Witches No access to interiors of other zones |
Price | ~$60 | ~$28 |
The Premium ticket grants you full access to both the interiors and exteriors of all areas within the theme park.

On the other hand, the Standard ticket
only allows entry to Ghibli's Grand Warehouse, Mononoke Village, and Valley of Witches,
with no interior access to other attractions!
So, if you want to explore everything without limits, a Premium ticket is ideal. However, they sell out incredibly fast, so
I hope you succeed in purchasing your tickets precisely at 2:00 PM (JST) on the 10th of each month using the link I've provided!

3. Route Hacks & Tips

Ghibli Park is incredibly vast, so planning your route strategically is key to exploring it efficiently!

First, attention all Standard ticket holders!
If you couldn't get a Premium ticket and opted for Standard instead, make a beeline for the Valley of Witches (marked as #4 on the map) as soon as you enter!

Head towards the carousel in that area, and you'll find tickets for three popular attractions sold exclusively on the day of your visit!
✅ Howl's Moving Castle 1,000 JPY
✅ Witch's House 400 JPY
✅ Okino Residence 400 JPY

Even with a Standard ticket, by arriving early (doing an 'open run'), I was able to purchase these day-of Premium tickets!
If you missed out on Premium tickets, follow my recommended route and make a dash for those day-of limited tickets!
(Seriously, if you don't 'open run,' you'll likely miss out!)
After securing those, you can leisurely explore the remaining themed areas.

If you have a Premium ticket, actually,
you can leisurely explore according to your Great Warehouse entry time.
That's because Premium tickets grant access to all areas!

Q. When buying tickets, which Great Warehouse entry time is best? |
A. The Great Warehouse, which features so many must-see attractions like Yubaba, No-Face, and Ponyo from Spirited Away, that you could call it the main highlight, accepts entry reservations at 10 AM and 2 PM. A. Personally, I found the 10 AM slot, being the first, was great for taking photos because there were fewer people. So, if you're like me and want to capture some amazing shots, 10 AM is perfect. If you prefer a more relaxed exploration of Ghibli Park, 2 PM is ideal. |

Now, if you've got a Standard ticket,
as I mentioned before, as soon as you enter,
you'll want to head straight for Witch's Valley to purchase a limited ticket for the Premium areas,
like Howl's Moving Castle!

After that, those who reserved the 10 AM Great Warehouse slot
can enter anytime before 11 AM.
So, make sure to enter within that timeframe!
(Remember, re-entry is not allowed once you exit, so plan to see everything before you leave!)
To minimize wait times at the photo zones afterward,
head straight down to the first basement floor and snap a photo with No-Face!
(The queue gets long quickly if you don't come right away!)

I got to take pictures with Ponyo from Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and a whole host of other beloved Ghibli characters!

Even the iconic Yubaba looked so real,
I couldn't stop taking photos and videos!

After all that, I started to get hungry, so I grabbed some snacks.
There were also souvenir shops where I could browse
or buy merchandise of my favorite characters!

Stepping outside, I explored theme sections like Howl's Moving Castle and
Okino's House, which were recreated so realistically!
Photos aren't allowed inside, so it's a good idea to check out reviews
before you go to get a sense of what to expect.

4. Overall Impressions
If you love Ghibli and are planning a trip to Nagoya,
Ghibli Park is absolutely worth a visit!
Since it's such a popular spot, securing Premium tickets quickly is
essential. But if you missed out and ended up with a Standard ticket,
don't worry! If you follow my recommended route and tips,
you can still purchase internal viewing tickets on the day of your visit, so definitely keep that in mind!
Especially, remember that you can buy internal viewing tickets on Klook every 10th of the month at 2 PM (JST),
so set your alarms and I hope you succeed in booking!
