Ganghwa Day Trip
Jeondeungsa Temple - Oepo Port - Bomunsa Temple
Minmeoru Beach - Ganghwa Pungmul Market

Office worker by weekday, travel blogger by weekend
This is Jju's Travel Log!
Just an hour away from Seoul and Gyeonggi-do,
Ganghwa's Seokmodo Island is the perfect spot for a quick getaway!
A 2-day trip is great, but even a day trip
is totally doable and stress-free for this Incheon destination.
Here is my packed and exciting
Ganghwa day trip itinerary
that I'm happy to share with you!
01 Ganghwa Day Trip Itinerary
📍 Jeondeungsa Temple

📍 Oepo Port
885, Haeanseo-ro, Naega-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon
📍 Bomunsa Temple
44, Samsannam-ro 828beon-gil, Samsan-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon

📍 Ganghwa Pungmul Market

Jeondeungsa Temple -
Seokmodo Island (Oepo Port, Bomunsa Temple, Minmeoru Beach)
- Ganghwa Pungmul Market
Along the way to and from Seokmodo,
I also stopped by Jeondeungsa Temple and Ganghwa Pungmul Market.
Keep this in mind for your planning!
02 Jeondeungsa Temple
📍 37-41, Jeondeungsa-ro, Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon
💰 Entrance Fee: Free
🚗 Parking: Charged (Compact vehicles ~$2 / Large vehicles ~$5)
🍁 A peaceful Ganghwado temple that's easy and wonderful to visit

Jeondeungsa Temple is one of Ganghwa's most iconic destinations!
If you want to soak in the quiet, historic temple atmosphere,
I highly, highly recommend adding this to your Ganghwa itinerary.
Although admission is free, there is a parking fee,
so it's good to keep that in mind before you go.
It's especially famous for its gorgeous autumn foliage, so visiting around this time
will let you experience autumn in Korea at its absolute best!
03 Oepo Port & Fish Market
📍 885, Haeanseo-ro, Naega-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon
🚗 Parking: Free
🐟 Enjoying the ocean views and exploring the fresh fish market

Now, onto the main course of our Seokmodo day trip—
visiting Oepo Port! 🐟
Full of fresh, lively seafood,
this is Ganghwado's Oepo Port!

First, take a quick peek at the beautiful sea...

At the Oepo Port Fish Market,
it's so fun to walk around and check out all the fresh fish and seafood.

On a personal note,
compared to Noryangjin or Yeonan Pier Fish Market,
there is almost no aggressive soliciting, and it's much cleaner and less crowded.
That's why I find myself coming back here so often!

I bought them because I really wanted to try raw shrimp sashimi,
and they were incredibly plump and delicious!
There are plenty of great restaurants nearby,
so it's a perfect lunch stop
before you kick off your Seokmodo adventure.
04 Bomunsa Temple
📍 44 Samsannam-ro 828beon-gil, Samsan-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon
💰 Admission: Adults ~$1
🚗 Parking: ~$1 (Paid)
👣 Lots of stairs, but an absolute must-visit temple on Ganghwado Island

Bomunsa is famous for being a temple with a stunning ocean view!

The Reclining Buddha and the Buddha carved into the rock cliff
are highly famous, but that's not all!!
The surrounding natural scenery is absolutely breathtaking.

The stairs are quite steep and there are a lot of them,
so carrying some cold water is a must, not an option!
I actually climbed up with a refreshing slushie in hand.
There are cafes and convenience stores right by the entrance,
so you don't have to worry about snacks!

Walking up leisurely with a slushie in hand
and taking in the sights, you really start to realize
just how beautiful local travel destinations in Korea
can actually be.
05 Minmeoru Beach
📍 Maeum-ri, Samsan-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon
💰 Admission: Free
🚗 Parking: Free
⛱️ A perfect getaway where you can enjoy both mudflats and the sandy beach

Next up is
Ganghwa's Minmeoru Beach,
where you can experience both mudflats and swimming!
It's incredible to visit in the summer,
but it's also wonderful to explore during the cooler seasons.
06 Ganghwa Pungmul Market
📍 17-9 Jungang-ro, Ganghwa-eup, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon
⏰️ Open daily from 08:00 to 20:00
⭕️ Five-day market opens on days ending in 2 and 7
❌️ Closed on the 3rd Monday of every month

After wrapping up my Ganghwa day trip,
I wasn't quite ready to go home yet, so I dropped by
the Ganghwa Pungmul Market!

Since it's famous for local specialties like
salted seafood, turnip kimchi, and large-eyed herring,
it's a great place to browse around and pick some up to take home.

I ended up taking some local turnip kimchi (soonmu kimchi) home,
and it goes so incredibly well with ramyun!
07 Wrapping Up

And that's it for my easy-breezy
Ganghwado Island day trip travelogue!
I focused mostly on Seongmodo Island during this trip,
and it was the perfect, effortless weekend getaway.
