Hellooo! It's me, Toffee, your go-to traveler who's always off exploring whenever I get a chance! .ᐟ
Even though autumn officially began, it's still incredibly hot, right?🥵
To escape the sweltering heat, I planned a weekend day trip
and visited Gajok Shimteo, a restaurant in Chuncheon's Jiam-ri Valley.
It's officially water play season!
Whether you're with your significant other, friends, or family & kids,
this post is for anyone looking for a Chuncheon Jiam-ri valley restaurant!

Getting There & Reservations
The public transport options to Gajok Shimteo aren't the best,
so I highly recommend going by private car.

From Chuncheon Intercity Bus Terminal to Gajok Shimteo,
the taxi fare is approximately ~$21.
A round trip would be about ~$41!

We went as a group for an outing,
so we chartered a mini-bus 🚌.

Upon arrival, we were shown to our seats.
We sat close to the valley, so it was super convenient to head down to the water!!
You can make reservations by phone, and you'll receive a confirmation text message.
Menu & Prices

Since they use native chickens, the prices are on the higher side!
Native Chicken Baeksook (Domestic) ~$55
Native Spicy Braised Chicken (Domestic) ~$55
Pork Belly (Domestic/180g) ~$14
*Pork Belly orders start from 4 servings
Acorn Jelly ~$10
Alcohol (Soju, Beer) ~$3

On weekends, there are a lot of customers, so setting up side dishes
and waiting for food can take a little longer!
But every single side dish was neat and delicious!

Since it's Native Chicken Baeksook, for 4 adults,
it might feel a little on the smaller side 🥹.
I recommend ordering side dishes like Acorn Jelly or Potato Pancakes
to go along with your meal!

The Spicy Braised Chicken might look red, but it's not overly spicy,
and if you mix rice with the tender potatoes, it's absolutely delicious🤤👍
And these chicken legs are quite substantial, wouldn't you say?

When you're swimming, then eating, then swimming again, you get hungry super fast! We were playing in the water and ended up ordering some extra samgyeopsal (pork belly), and honestly, I wish we'd ordered it sooner! There's nothing quite like a delicious meal of grilled meat after a refreshing swim.
Since the samgyeopsal is domestically sourced, it was ~$14 for 180g. Honestly, it's a bit pricey, but you're out enjoying nature, so it's worth it, right? 😉
P.S. We also had dotorimuk (acorn jelly salad), but we were so engrossed in eating that I completely forgot to take a picture ㅠㅠ It's absolutely perfect as a side dish! I highly recommend the dotorimuk..👍
Foot Volleyball Court, Shower Facilities, and Stream Depth

There's a machine to inflate your tubes! All you need to do is bring your tube.
The stream depth varied, with shallow areas perfect for babies to play, and deeper spots where adults couldn't touch the bottom!
Sometimes, if it's too shallow, water activities can be a bit awkward, but the stream in front of the Family Rest Area had the perfect depth for both adults and kids to enjoy together. It was fantastic 🌊

For those visiting with children, we recommend bringing a long-sleeved rash guard swimsuit, non-slip aqua shoes or Crocs, various children's toys, goggles, hats, tubes, and life vests.
Since there are deeper sections in the water,
guardians must carefully and safely
supervise children while they play!🙏

The foot volleyball court was also spacious, making it great for groups to enjoy. You can't have a group outing without a game of foot volleyball, right? 😜
Even in the afternoon, with no shade and the sun beating down, the guys were still playing foot volleyball no matter what... truly amazing 👏
Pros and Cons Comparison

The atmosphere here is overwhelmingly wonderful, and the biggest advantage is that there's no separate charge for using the flat wooden platforms (pyeongsang).
It's especially a perfect spot for group gatherings like summer outings, friend meetups, and family reunions! 👍
However, for travelers relying on public transport, it's a bit far from downtown Chuncheon, so accessibility might be a challenge.
Plus, if you visit during a heatwave and keep using a portable gas burner, it's the ultimate "fighting fire with fire" experience... 🥵
Even so, I was really satisfied with the Family Rest Area! Since 'Ipchu' (the start of autumn) has now passed, the weather should be just perfect, so I'm planning to visit again at the end of August!
Overall Review & Conclusion

Since we drove, the parking lot was well-maintained and convenient for parking. Also, there are shower facilities available after swimming, so we could change and get ready before heading out. (Just a heads-up, the showers aren't as sparkling clean as a water park!)
However, keep in mind that many groups tend to flock here on weekends, so if you want to snag a good spot on one of the platforms, I recommend arriving a bit early in the morning!
