Fortnum & Mason London: Best Tea & Souvenir Guide
Explore Fortnum & Mason in London! Discover the best royal teas, musical biscuit tins, and shopping tips in this ultimate Piccadilly guide.

If you are planning a trip to London, you have probably heard of Fortnum & Mason—the legendary brand that has been supplying tea to the British Royal Family for generations!
While I initially thought it was just a quaint little tea shop, visiting in person made me realize it is actually a massive, multi-story luxury department store.
From iconic loose-leaf teas and gourmet food to fine china, fragrances, and seasonal gifts, this place has it all. Honestly, you could easily spend over an hour just wandering through the beautifully curated floors!
Whether you are looking for affordable souvenirs or high-end luxury gifts, I highly recommend exploring everything from the basement food hall to the upper lifestyle floors.
Location & Hours

📍 Fortnum & Mason
181 Piccadilly, London W1A 1ER, United Kingdom
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Sunday 11:30 AM - 6:00 PM
Its location is incredibly convenient for sightseeing. I walked over in about 10 minutes after watching the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.
It is also just a short 10-minute walk from Piccadilly Circus Station, Soho, and the National Gallery, making it the perfect shopping stop to add to your London itinerary.

The iconic eau de nil (mint green) exterior and the gorgeously decorated window displays make the building impossible to miss from down the street!

When we arrived, a friendly doorman in a top hat greeted us with a warm smile and opened the door. It turned out we had actually entered through the side entrance, which felt like discovering a secret passageway!

If you are purely looking for classic souvenirs like tea, biscuits, and chocolates, you can focus most of your time on the ground floor.
However, if you want a complete shopping experience, take your time exploring the gourmet foods in the basement and the lifestyle departments on the upper floors.
Ground Floor: A Paradise for Tea & Sweets

As soon as you step onto the ground floor, you are greeted by an overwhelming display of colorful chocolates, candies, and sweet treats.

From delicate sugar jellies to giant chocolate bars, the variety is incredible. While some of these might be a bit tricky to pack as gifts, they are perfect for buying as a sweet treat to enjoy back at your hotel after a long day of exploring London.

The ground floor is truly a wonderland of tea, biscuits, and chocolates. There are so many options that it can feel a bit overwhelming, especially since many of the premium teas are loose-leaf rather than tea bags.

I ended up grabbing a bunch of the classic, budget-friendly tea bags because they were convenient. However, I realized later that these standard lines are often imported globally and can be found in high-end shops back home.

If you want something truly special, I highly recommend splurging a bit on their UK-exclusive items, such as the famous musical biscuit tins that play a tune as they rotate, or their limited-edition loose-leaf blends.

Keep in mind that London prices are on the higher side, so a shopping spree here can add up quickly, but the quality and beautiful packaging make it worth every penny!
The Basement: Gourmet Food Hall & Preserves

You can head down to the lower level using the elegant spiral staircase or take the elevator.

The basement houses a gorgeous fresh food hall filled with artisanal cheeses, dairy, and fresh produce. While fresh groceries might not be practical for tourists staying in hotels, it is still incredibly fun to browse.

They have some unique, hard-to-find fruits and a bakery section that smelled absolutely heavenly. If I had visited on an empty stomach, I definitely would have picked up a few pastries!

Don't worry, the basement isn't just for perishables. They also have an extensive selection of beautifully packaged preserves, honeys, and marmalades. If you are looking for a unique gift for someone who isn't a big tea drinker, a jar of Fortnum & Mason jam is an excellent alternative.
Upper Floors: Fashion, Tableware & Fragrances

Heading to the upper floors shows you why Fortnum & Mason is classified as a luxury department store. It has a slightly more intimate, boutique feel compared to Harrods, but the luxury curation is top-notch.

You'll find high-end jewelry, designer leather goods, premium stationery, and even a year-round selection of exquisite Christmas ornaments. It is incredibly easy to get distracted by all the beautiful trinkets here!

The fragrance department is also fascinating. Instead of the usual mainstream brands, they showcase highly curated, niche perfume houses that you won't easily find elsewhere.

My absolute favorite spot was the tableware section. Even if you don't drink tea regularly, the fine bone china tea sets are so breathtakingly beautiful that they will make you want to start hosting afternoon tea at home. However, the price tag on these luxury sets is quite steep, so I had to gently place them back on the shelf!

They also offer a wonderful selection of luxury leather-bound diaries and high-quality stationery.

💡 Quick Shopping Tip: The ground floor gets incredibly crowded. I highly recommend browsing the quieter basement and upper floors first, and then heading to the ground floor to pick up your tea and biscuits right before checking out so you don't have to carry heavy bags around.

I ended up buying two musical biscuit tins and several boxes of specialty tea bags, which came out to £173 (approx. $220). It was a bit of a splurge, but they make the most wonderful gifts and souvenirs from London!
If you are looking for classic, high-quality British souvenirs and a truly royal shopping experience, make sure to add Fortnum & Mason to your London travel list!
