It's a place where you can see everything from Botticelli's The Birth of Venus

I'll cover everything from the Uffizi Gallery's location, opening hours, and how to book,
to its most iconic masterpieces.
Uffizi Gallery

📍 Uffizi Gallery
Piazzale degli Uffizi, 6, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy
✅ Opening Hours: Tuesday-Sunday 08:15-18:30
Ticket Office Closes: 17:30
✅ Regular Closures: Mondays, January 1st, December 25th
(Please note: There may be special openings or temporary closures.)
The Uffizi Gallery is right next to Piazza della Signoria,
and also close to the Ponte Vecchio.
Since it's located within Florence's Old Town,
it's perfect for exploring nearby attractions before or after your visit.

The Uffizi was originally a building for administrative offices,
but it evolved into a museum based on the collections of the Medici family.
While it's famous for Renaissance paintings,
it's not just canvases; you'll also find ancient sculptures and busts displayed along the corridors.
If you want to truly appreciate each piece, you'll need a fair bit of time,
so it's best to plan for around 3 hours for your visit.
How to Book

You can book in a few ways: buying directly from the official website,
reserving tickets through a travel platform,
or joining a guided tour.
📌 Ticket Comparison
Official Website | Trip.com | Guided Tour |
Advance Booking €29 Same-day Purchase €25 | ~$32 | Tour Fee from ~$34 Entrance Ticket €29 extra |
At the current exchange rate, €29 is approximately ~$32. This means you might not even need to book directly through the official website.
You can often find it cheaper on Trip.com!
If you'd like to hear explanations of the artworks,
a guided tour is highly recommended!

If you're booking on the official website, start by logging in.
Then, click on "DETAILS" for THE UFFIZI and select your entrance tickets.

Once you've selected your date and time and proceeded to the payment screen,
you'll need to enter your English name (exactly as it appears on your passport) and your email address.
Make sure to enter it exactly as it is on your passport, as they may check it!
As a side note, tickets for entry after 4 PM
are a bit cheaper at €16 for same-day purchase and €20 for advance booking.
However, the museum closes at 6:30 PM, so your viewing time will be shorter.
It's worth considering if you plan to focus on the main masterpieces,
but if you want to explore at a leisurely pace, an earlier time slot is best.

Once your purchase is complete, your ticket, with a QR code and barcode, will be sent to the email address you provided.
Simply show it to a staff member upon entry.

Since I planned to briefly see the main works,
I chose the 4 PM viewing slot.
The line wasn't long, and they didn't ask for ID separately,
so I was able to enter quickly.
Key Works

Let me explain some of the must-see
key works at the Uffizi Gallery!

📍Botticelli, The Birth of Venus
This is one of the most iconic works at the Uffizi Gallery.
Although the title is 'The Birth of Venus',
it's not precisely the moment of her birth,
but rather the scene where Venus, born from the sea, is carried by the wind
and arrives on the shores of Cyprus.
The figure blowing wind from the left is
Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, shown pushing Venus
to reach the shore.
The woman on the right is interpreted as
one of the Horae, who presides over spring.
It's also wonderful to see Botticelli's 'Primavera' (Spring) alongside this!

📍Leonardo da Vinci, Annunciation
This painting depicts the Archangel Gabriel announcing
the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary.
Painted by Da Vinci in his youth,
a garden and a distant landscape extend behind the figures.
Pay close attention to the angel's wings and drapery,
as well as the landscape that gradually fades into the distance,
as you explore the details.
Don't miss Michelangelo's 'Doni Tondo' as well!

📍Caravaggio, Medusa
This striking work immediately captures your attention with Medusa's snake-like hair
and startled expression.
What's unique is that it wasn't painted on a flat canvas,
but on a convex shield.
It depicts the head of Medusa from Greek mythology, and the strong
expressions and chiaroscuro create a quite different atmosphere
compared to the works we've seen so far.

📍Raphael, Madonna of the Goldfinch
This painting shows the Virgin Mary with two children standing before her –
these children are the young Jesus and John the Baptist.
John is showing a small bird, and Jesus is reaching out to touch it.
This bird is the goldfinch mentioned in the title.
While it appears to be a peaceful scene,
the bird actually symbolizes the future suffering Jesus will endure.
📍Parmigianino, Madonna with the Long Neck
This painting shows the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus
lying on her lap.
As the title suggests, her neck is unusually long,
and her fingers and body are also depicted in an elongated manner.
Even the infant Jesus's proportions are different from a typical baby's.
It's said that these bodily proportions were intentionally stretched to emphasize elegance
rather than depicting reality.

The Uffizi Gallery is home to so many famous works,
that if you try to see them all in detail, you might run out of time.
It's a good idea to pick a few must-see works beforehand
and then explore the rest following the flow of the museum.
If you want to explore at your own pace, choose an admission ticket.
If you want to delve into the background stories of the works, opt for a guided tour.
Book according to your Florence itinerary!
