If you're dreaming of seeing the entire city of Florence laid out before you, then a trip up to Piazzale Michelangelo is an absolute must!
This iconic square is renowned as a prime spot for catching breathtaking sunsets, offering unparalleled views of the Duomo, the city's signature red-tiled rooftops, and the scenic Arno River winding through it all.

On my last trip, I only had a single night in Florence, so I couldn't time my visit perfectly for sunset. However, even in broad daylight, the views were absolutely spectacular!

Piazzale Michelangelo, 50125 Firenze FI, Italy

To reach the square, you'll cross the Arno River from Florence's Old Town and ascend a hill. The best part? Admission is completely free!
During warmer months, the climb can be quite strenuous, so be sure to bring plenty of sun protection. After visiting the Uffizi Gallery, I decided to take a taxi up to avoid the heat – and I definitely recommend it if you're feeling tired!
From the square, you can gaze upon not only the magnificent Duomo but also the tower of Palazzo Vecchio and the charming riverside areas.
I arrived around 6:00 PM and was surprised by how few people were there. I imagine most visitors tend to arrive closer to sunset for the full experience.

You'll find fantastic photo opportunities all along the path as you descend. Snapping pictures directly from the main square doesn't quite capture the full panorama. For the most stunning shots, head slightly downhill to frame the Duomo beautifully in your photos.

This particular spot, a famous Florence photo zone on Instagram, is right in the middle of the road! Surprisingly, there were hardly any cars or pedestrians, allowing for a relaxed photoshoot.
These photos were taken around 6:30 PM in August, so it wasn't quite sunset, but the views were still incredibly gorgeous!

Doesn't the Duomo, peeking through the trees, look like a masterpiece framed in an artwork? Simply stunning! ❤️
For your outfit, I recommend flowy dresses in pastel or neutral tones rather than overly bright colors – they truly complement the scenery.
