Italy Travel Supermarket Shopping List,
Souvenir Recommendations: Pistachio, Pocket Coffee & More

What's absolutely essential during an Italy trip
is souvenir shopping at the supermarket.
The snacks and
ingredients you find at local supermarkets are simply perfect as souvenirs.

(Whether you visit Rome, Florence, Venice, or any other city,
I'll mainly recommend products you can easily find.)

1. Pocket Coffee

The first souvenir I want to introduce
is Pocket Coffee.
It's one of Italy's famous specialties,
a country renowned for its espresso.
While it's called Pocket Coffee, it's actually a combination of coffee and chocolate,
with espresso inside a chocolate shell.
Each box contains 5 pieces, and the product shown in the photo above
has a total of 10 pieces.

When you unwrap a Pocket Coffee, it looks like a regular chocolate,
but bite into it and the espresso inside
gives it a truly luxurious taste.
If you come to Italy, Pocket Coffee
is definitely a must-buy!
By the way, while traveling in October, I tried to find Pocket Coffee,
and some supermarkets said it's only available in summer.
Generally, products available in summer and winter are different,
but I was able to find it at another supermarket.
It might vary from store to store, so try visiting a few!
2. Pistachio-Related Treats
Italy has such a wide variety of pistachio-related food products
that you can find them almost everywhere.
Raw Pistachios

While pistachio snacks are great,
you can also find small packages of Italy's famous pistachios,
which I highly recommend as souvenirs.
You can truly savor the unique nutty flavor of pistachios,
which is wonderful.
I particularly recommend them as gifts for parents!
Pistachio Biscuits

For pistachio biscuits, I recommend Mulino Bianco
Biaocchi products.
(MULINO BIANCO Biaocchi)
The reason these biscuits are great as gifts and souvenirs is that
they also come in individually packaged boxes,
making them perfect for sharing with friends.
Plus, they're a type of biscuit filled with rich pistachio cream,
similar to a universally appealing cream-filled biscuit,
so everyone is sure to love them.

My second recommendation is GRISBI Pistachio flavor.
Grisbi biscuits feature pistachio cream
inside a chocolate cookie,
making them the ultimate treat if you love both chocolate and pistachio.
Thanks to the smooth pistachio filling,
you might just devour all 9 pieces in no time!
They pair perfectly with coffee, so definitely try them together!
Pistachio Candies

Next up, I recommend Rossana, a pistachio-flavored candy
from the Rossana brand.
While the outside is a typical pistachio-flavored candy,
it contains a pistachio spread inside,
making it even more delicious with every bite.
It was a flavor I'd never encountered in Korea,
so it was a souvenir well worth bringing home!
Pistachio Chocolate

Finally, I recommend NOVI Chocolate
in pistachio flavor.
It's a sweet chocolate with smooth pistachio cream and crunchy pistachio pieces
embedded throughout, adding an extra layer of nutty flavor.
While they might be a bit heavy, their small size means
I highly recommend stocking up on several as gifts!
3. Lemon Candies

Third on our list is none other than lemon candies,
Italy's second most famous treat after pistachios!
Lemons, a specialty of Southern Italy, are said to be sweeter
than those from other regions, which is why lemon candies
are so renowned here.

Italian lemon candies are sweet on the outside
and refreshingly tart on the inside, making them an already popular souvenir,
even favored as morning sickness candies!
Plus, since they're small, there's less worry about them breaking
or melting easily, making them a perfect souvenir for summer travels.
4. 1936 Potato Chips

Fourth up are the 1936 Potato Chips.
I heard they were famous, so I picked up a bag out of curiosity and gave them a try.
They have a similar taste to regular potato chips,
but their crunchiness is far superior to many others,
making them incredibly addictive – you just can't stop reaching for more!
These crispy chips are also delicious dipped in savory or
spicy sauces, just like nachos.
You can find them in multi-packs of smaller sizes at supermarkets,
so I highly recommend them as gifts for friends and family!
5. Olive Oil

Number five is an essential souvenir from any trip to Italy:
olive oil!
When you visit Italian restaurants, they always serve bread with
olive oil and balsamic vinegar before the meal, and it's absolutely delicious.
There's a huge variety of olive oils, but as a guideline for choosing,
you can opt for an extra virgin olive oil
that has the "DOP" label.
(This is a helpful tip if you're not sure where to start.)
Since it's definitely cheaper than what you'd find elsewhere,
if your luggage weight allows, it's a great idea to
bring home a few bottles.
6. Balsamic Vinegar

Next up is balsamic vinegar, which pairs wonderfully
with the olive oil we just talked about – consider buying them as a set!
Among the many types of balsamic vinegar, I personally
recommend a thick, viscous balsamic vinegar.
It's also a product that's hard to find in some countries, and its rich flavor
goes much better with salads and bread than thinner varieties!
After much deliberation, I bought an affordable yet high-quality balsamic
from Conad and was absolutely delighted with it!
7. Peroni Beer

Our seventh souvenir is Peroni Lemon-flavored beer.
Peroni is one of Italy's iconic
beer brands.
Among their offerings, I especially recommend the lemon flavor
for those who, like me, aren't big drinkers.
With an alcohol content of around 1%, it's incredibly light and refreshing,
tasting just like a delicious lemon beverage!
8. Capsule Coffee

Finally, the last souvenir I want to introduce is capsule coffee.
While shopping at supermarkets, you'll discover a variety of
Nespresso-compatible coffee capsules.
Many of these capsule coffees are great value, costing only around 2-3 Euros per pack,
making them perfect to bring home and enjoy a quick cup.
I picked up some from Conad and Famila supermarkets, and they're perfect
for a light, enjoyable cup at home.

I've introduced eight categories of souvenirs that anyone traveling to Italy
might want to bring back. While many of these can be found
internationally, purchasing them locally will undoubtedly offer better value
and more authentic meaning.
I hope this guide helps you explore a wonderful variety of Italian treasures!
