Your Walkable Guide to the Best Photo Spots in Fira, Santorini
Capture the Dreamiest Postcard Views of Greece on Foot
Written & Photographed by Travel Sun

Hey there, fellow explorers! It's Travel Sun here.
It has been a minute since I shared my Greece travel adventures, but looking back at my Santorini photo gallery, I realized I absolutely had to share these exact locations. Every single shot turned out like an absolute dream, and I want you to capture those same postcard-perfect memories!
(Even if you visit during the shoulder season, these iconic spots remain absolutely breathtaking!)

While Santorini is a legendary honeymoon destination, I tackled it as an independent, budget-friendly backpacking trip. It is entirely possible to experience this bucket-list island without spending a fortune!
By visiting during the shoulder season in late March, I saved a massive amount on accommodations and flights. It's the perfect hack for budget travelers.
Just a quick heads-up: the off-season in Santorini is incredibly quiet. Many shops and restaurants remain closed, and the bustling energy doesn't fully kick off until May.
In fact, during the quieter months, Oia often undergoes heavy renovations, which can be a bit disappointing. If you are traveling during the off-season, my biggest tip is to base yourself in Fira (Thira) town, where you will find far more open amenities and stunning, uninterrupted views.

Even in the quiet months, the iconic blue-and-white color palette of the island is absolutely mesmerizing.
Let’s dive into the ultimate walkable photo route through Fira. I have mapped these out in order from north to south so you can easily stroll from one spot to the next!
1. Imerovigli Viewpoint
Our first stop is the breathtaking Imerovigli Viewpoint. This spot offers a dramatic panorama where you can see the sheer volcanic cliffs plunging into the azure sea, flanked by the cascading white buildings of both Fira and Imerovigli.

The rugged beauty of Imerovigli...

And the classic charm of Fira town. Both vantage points offer entirely unique vibes!

Pro Tip: Coordinate your outfit! I wore a blue and white patterned dress to match the signature Greek island aesthetic. Bold colors look absolutely incredible against the whitewashed background, so avoid wearing plain white!

If you want to capture the vastness of the Aegean Sea and the dramatic cliffs in a single frame, this is the absolute best place to start your walking tour.

2. Three Bells of Thira (The Famous Blue Dome)
Next on our route is the legendary Three Bells of Thira. This is easily one of the most photographed spots in all of Greece, featuring a stunning blue dome and a three-bell tower overlooking the caldera.
While the church rooftop itself is private and closed to the public, the view from the pedestrian pathway directly above it is completely free and easily accessible. It is the perfect angle to capture the dome framed perfectly by the sparkling sea.

I arrived here just as the golden hour was beginning. The way the warm sunlight hits the white walls and the blue dome with the sea in the background is pure magic.

Nothing beats a Santorini sunset. Make sure to take your time here and snap some photos with the iconic bells!

3. Mirador Lookout (Firostefani)
Firostefani, Thira 847 00, Greece
Another absolute favorite of mine is the Mirador lookout point along the Firostefani path. It offers a sweeping, unobstructed view of Fira town cascading down the cliffside.

The beauty of this area is that it's not just a single viewpoint—the entire walking trail is a continuous scenic overlook. Every few steps reveal a slightly different angle of the stunning landscape.

Here, I changed into a vibrant red dress. It provided a stunning, high-contrast pop against the stark white architecture and the deep blue sea. Highly recommend packing a bold red piece for your trip!

Fun fact: My friend brought along some powdered Pocari Sweat to create the ultimate blue-and-white commercial aesthetic! It was such a fun, creative photo concept that fit the island perfectly.

As you continue walking south towards Fira, you will stumble upon incredible hidden corners like this one.
I snapped this photo from a small path just a short walk from the Mirador lookout heading towards the Three Bells. The backdrop looks almost surreal, like a painted canvas!

This quickly became my absolute favorite profile picture! Fira town is incredibly photogenic—you genuinely don't need to be a professional photographer to get stunning shots here.
4. Classico Restaurant
For a relaxing photo stop, head over to Classico Restaurant, perched right on the edge of the Fira cliffs.
Because of its prime location, you can sit right by the window and watch the sun dip below the horizon. You don't have to order a full meal—grabbing a refreshing drink or a coffee to enjoy the view is perfectly fine!

Right outside the restaurant, there is a gorgeous stone archway that frames the caldera and the sunset beautifully. It acts like a natural picture frame!
While Santorini has endless sunset spots, this specific framed view is entirely unique to Classico. Definitely bookmark this spot!

5. Sunset and View Point (Mitropoleos Street)
The Ultimate Spot for Santorini's Famous Sunsets
Our final photo stop is the main sunset viewpoint on Mitropoleos Street, where I ended up spending almost every evening during my trip.

While it is beautiful during the day, the magic truly happens when the sun starts to set, painting the clouds in deep shades of gold, orange, and purple.
Watching the sky change colors over the caldera is a meditative experience that you simply cannot miss.

And here is my absolute favorite budget food hack: grab some pork souvlaki from Obelix to eat while you watch the sunset!
It is incredibly delicious and cheap (usually just a few dollars!). After traveling through other parts of Europe, this savory street food felt like an absolute feast. The pork version is highly recommended!

You might even make a few friendly feline friends while you eat. The local stray cats are incredibly sweet and love hanging around the viewpoints.
Eating hot souvlaki while watching the sunset over the Aegean Sea is one of my favorite travel memories of all time.
I hope this walkable guide helps you capture some incredible photos in Fira town! Happy travels!

Where to Stay: My Budget Recommendation
Since I was traveling on a budget, I opted for a highly rated, affordable hotel instead of the ultra-luxury cliffside suites.
I stayed at the Golden Star Hotel in Fira. It offered incredible value, especially during the shoulder season, allowing me to enjoy the beauty of Santorini without the hefty price tag.
Book Golden Star Hotel Santorini at the Lowest Price
While the pool was closed during the colder shoulder season, the staff was incredibly accommodating and even let me check in early at 2:00 PM. It was a wonderfully quiet and peaceful stay!
During the peak summer season, the pool area is fully open, making it an even better place to unwind after a day of exploring.

During the off-season in March, many shops and restaurants are closed, and there is a lot of construction going on in Oia. Therefore, it's better to spend your time in Fira without setting your expectations too high.
There is no way to go inside, so you can only take pictures from the outside looking down. If you visit when the sun starts to set, the sunlight shines between the sea and the bells, making it even more beautiful.
Ordering a meal is not mandatory; you can just order drinks. You can enjoy the Santorini sunset through the window while having your drink.
I recommend the souvlaki sold at Obelix. The pork souvlaki is especially delicious and great to eat while watching the sunset.
The swimming pool is not available during the off-season. However, you can stay at a low price and receive early check-in service.
