Safety in Athens: Why I Started My Search with the Plaka District
Instead of immediately picking a hotel,
I first researched areas to avoid in Athens and
local reviews.
Considering safety, the Plaka district
was highly recommended, and
I also checked out the area near
Syntagma Square, where the X95 bus arrives.
The Athens Gate Hotel was essentially a centrally located hotel,
making it incredibly easy to explore Plaka, the Acropolis, and Syntagma.
After checking Google, Naver blogs, and travel forums, even looking into reviews about cleanliness and bed bugs,
with great ratings and reviews, this place was an easy decision! ✨
Athens Accommodation Recommendations for Walkers
After arriving at Athens Airport,
I took the X95 airport bus for a little over an hour and got off at Syntagma Square.
From the square to The Athens Gate Hotel,
it was about a 10-15 minute walk, even while pulling my suitcase.

By using the airport bus instead of a taxi, I saved on transportation costs,
and since the Acropolis was only about a 10-minute walk away,
I could visit it right after checking in on the first day.

If you prioritize both airport accessibility and
walking distance to tourist attractions,
this was a place whose location I absolutely loved
for a walking trip!

Cozy and the room condition was excellent! ✨
No bugs appeared during our 2-night stay,
and the bedding was also clean.
Even I, who highly values accommodation cleanliness,
was impressed with this place.
Welcome wine and snacks received for our wedding anniversary 🍷
The bathroom was sparkling clean too!
They even had disposable slippers ready for us!
And even reusable amenities, showing their eco-conscious side.
On our first day, we landed in Athens, dropped our bags,
and by the time we finished exploring the Acropolis, it was already evening.
The next day, our schedule was packed from early morning
with a full-day Meteora tour, which meant
it was night again by the time we returned.
Even on our check-out day,
we had to catch an early morning ferry
to Mykonos, so we barely had any time
to relax in the room and soak in the views;
Given our tight schedule,
the **most affordable room without a view** was perfectly sufficient for us.
However, if you're dreaming of an **Athens city view** right from your accommodation,
they do offer other room types – so keep that in mind!

the incredible **Acropolis view** from their rooftop restaurant✨
Our itinerary meant a series of early morning departures,
so missing out on the rooftop breakfast is still a huge regretㅠㅠ

and on our last night, we made sure to head up to the rooftop
to enjoy a beer alongside the stunning Acropolis night view 🍺
