Almaty’s specialty coffee and dining scene is incredibly vibrant and rapidly growing.
Among its many aesthetic spots, Fika truly stands out. Featured in international design magazines, this cafe is widely considered one of the most beautifully designed spaces in Almaty.
01. What Makes Fika So Special?
Fika is housed in a former Soviet-era railway workers' building. Local design studio NAAW masterfully transformed this historic structure into a hip, industrial-chic space reminiscent of trendy neighborhoods like Brooklyn or Berlin.
They beautifully preserved the original 1950s Soviet ceiling moldings while introducing raw, modern concrete textures, creating a striking contrast between past and present.
The cafe’s name, Fika, comes from the Swedish custom of taking a break for coffee, treats, and conversation with friends.
Inspired by Copenhagen’s cozy cafe culture, the interior seamlessly blends raw Eastern European architecture with warm, minimalist Scandinavian design elements.
Every corner is decorated with thoughtful, Nordic-style design accents that make you want to linger.

Fika is conveniently located right in the heart of central Almaty.
If you are new to the city, it is just a short 5 to 10-minute taxi ride from major landmarks like the Almaty Arbat pedestrian street and Panfilov Park.
The beautiful Abay Opera House is also just around the corner, making this neighborhood a wonderful area to explore on foot.
The building retains its classic Soviet facade, so keep an eye out for this minimalist concrete exterior so you don’t walk right past it!

Opening at 08:00 AM daily, it’s the perfect spot for a peaceful morning coffee before you start sightseeing.
Because they stay open until 11:00 PM, it’s also ideal for late-night dessert cravings or a relaxed evening drink.
We visited late in the evening to wind down with some sweet treats after dinner.
03. The Menu: Coffee & Dessert Review
Stepping inside, the space feels surprisingly grand and spacious.
To the left, there is a sleek espresso bar and an open bakery station. As you walk further in, you are welcomed by warm yellow walls and cozy, oversized sofa seating.
Once you take a seat, the staff will bring over a menu.
Since it was evening, they were also serving a selection of cocktails, vodka, and craft beers alongside their coffee menu.
We ordered a Matcha Tiramisu, Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream, and two hot lattes.
(We ordered directly at the counter so we could take a look at the fresh pastries in the display case first!)
Shortly after, our coffee and desserts were served right to our table.
The latte art was beautifully executed, and the espresso-to-milk ratio was absolutely spot on—creamy, rich, and incredibly smooth.
The apple pie was served warm, making the contrast with the cold vanilla ice cream absolutely heavenly. The Matcha Tiramisu was light, velvety, and perfectly balanced without being overly sweet.
Even though we had just finished a heavy dinner of local lamb chops, we managed to polish off every single bite of dessert!

We loved the minimalist design of their custom mugs—we even found the cafe's logo cleverly hidden on the bottom of the cup when we finished our drinks!
Thanks to the late hours and cozy vibe, it’s a fantastic spot to enjoy long conversations with friends. If you find yourself in Almaty, Fika is an absolute must-visit.
