When you're exploring a new city, especially on a sweltering day, sometimes your feet just lead you straight to the nearest cafe. We all need a blast of powerful air conditioning to recharge, right?
Today, I'm excited to introduce you to Marján Cukrászda, a renowned confectionery and cafe in Eger, one of Hungary's charming regional cities.
My visit on a Saturday afternoon was scorching hot, over 101°F (38.5°C)!
As soon as we stepped out of the car, my husband was ready for a cool-down, so we made a beeline for Marján Cafe.

The display cases are brimming with tempting gelato, cakes, and pastries, while the counter area is dedicated to crafting delicious beverages.
The interior of the cafe was spotless and very inviting.
The outdoor seating area is absolutely lovely, perfect for a leisurely afternoon, especially during the cooler autumn months. Isn't it charming? You might notice no one's sitting out there in my photos – that's because it was just too hot! While gorgeous, sitting outside would have been a recipe for heatstroke. Still, it’s a beautiful spot!
I ordered the mango and raspberry gelato. Gelato here is sold by weight.
1 Scoop (50 - 60g): 600 - 700 HUF

Overall Impressions & Summary
I actually found this gelato to be richer and more satisfying than even the famous rose gelato in Budapest or other highly-rated spots in Debrecen.
They really capture the fresh tang of the fruit, and it's not a light, airy texture. Instead, it melts into a delightful, substantial creaminess that coats your tongue – absolutely wonderful.
What truly stood out, though, was the incredible kindness of the staff.
When I encountered a tricky situation and needed some help, they were incredibly supportive and helpful.
Oh, and one more thing: the coffee was just okay. But forget the coffee, forget even the gelato for a moment – this place is an absolute champion of air conditioning! It was wonderfully, perfectly cool. (´▽｀)
